Roxanne, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Professionally I am an eclectic mix of Wedding Officiant, Lifestyle and Happiness Coach, Host, Speaker, Commercial Actor and Communication Specialist/Speech Pathologist. Underneath everything I do is a strong desire to offer others support, compassion, a safe haven, deep listening, an open mind as well as a fresh view on life and unique options that others in the industry are not offering. This is the theme running through all my businesses coupled with a strong desire to really make a difference. Each of my entrepreneurial pursuits came about in a unique way from personal experiences that led me to each business. My wedding business started after I spoke to a large group of people about living life authentically from the heart. Someone in the audience approached me and told me they loved my talk and asked if I would consider being the officiant for his sister’s wedding. I had no experience in this area at the time and told him so but also commented that it was an interesting offer! I went home, pondered his request, researched how one becomes an officiant and accepted his offer. My first wedding ceremony happened 8 weeks after. It was very well received and I absolutely loved every moment of it! At that particular wedding, someone else asked me to officiate theirs! I accepted the offer and quickly realized that I loved being a part of each love celebration and that I had something unique to offer and could work from the heart. I saw that there were many “template” weddings going on and vowed that my service to brides and grooms would never be from a template. Now I have a thriving wedding business and have officiated close to 400 ceremonies locally and abroad. Most importantly, what I do has been well received. As a side note, my own wedding many years prior ended up being far from what I envisioned, in many ways a disappointment I could never “fix” or recapture. So this further stoked my fire to never allow this to happen to anyone else. I also offer support through my style of life coaching to my couples. From all the weddings I have done over the years combined with my desire to support others in their journey of self-acceptance, self-love and happiness in being a couple, I am now in the process of producing my own TV show about Celebrating Love. Stay tuned! Life has an interesting way of revealing itself…

Have you ever had to pivot?
My educational background was in obtaining a master’s degree in Communicative Disorders, a fancy name for speech pathology. I actually chose this profession for personal reasons. I always knew I really wanted to make a difference. My father had suffered a brain hemorrhage and stroke which left him unable to reason and speak. For a little girl who was nine years old at the time, who loved her father with all her heart, this was devastating. Initially, my father did not even know who I was. At that young age, along with my mother, we took on the role of being caretaker to my father. I always felt so helpless in watching him in this state of not being able to communicate, of being perpetually frustrated. I could only standby and watch and was not able to do anything to help. After all those years of frustration, sadness and futility, I decided to become a Speech Pathologist. It was too late at that point to actually help my father, but my thought was that perhaps I could then help others in a similar predicament. After many years of being a Speech Pathologist, I became very drained and weary of my caretaker role. When I realized I could switch gears, put the past behind me and find something more fulfilling as my life’s mission, I let go of the need to “fix” my father and focus on what would truly make me happy. Being on this journey led me to my current list of entrepreneurial pursuits. My “work” now does not feel like work! Interesting journey of how one thing in life, no matter how great or how painful, leads you to the next step. That is this grand adventure called life!

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I would say at this point that the most effective strategy for growing my businesses and clientele has not been social media. Although I realize the difference that social media can make, what has supported my growth the most has been gaining so many positive reviews from clients, actually now close to 225 five star reviews as well as all the important alliances with others in my industry that I have nurtured and along the way.
