We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rotimi Osahon a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Rotimi , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My mother not only taught me about business, but also how to get an education. She did everything in here power to make sure that I ended up on the right path. I got my work ethic from her. She taught me to stay ambitious and to keep moving forward no matter the obstacles. She made me that believe I could do anything. I love her!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am a painter and graphic designer in the art industry. I sell my paintings through my art company. I travel to network and gain inspiration for new art pieces. It is the most fun I’ve had in my life to be honest. It brings me joy and is everything I wished for. I want to be remembered in history books!
I want to remind people how unique art can be. I believe what sets me apart is the stories that I tell with every piece. The details are in the process. I take different art styles that I was taught over the years and incorporate them into each project.
I have created a following of new collectors. It is exciting to see their faces when the art is revealed. They are amazed at the fine work. I try to create that shock value every time!

How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
Our website is www.rostorm.art! We are also on the Etsy platform “Rostorm”
The pros is learning how to be self sufficient in web building. My lovely fiancé helped me create my website. There are a lot of new features that support independent owners. Etsy also gives you an additional audience to market to. The cons are that it is a process that takes time and patience. I’m very impatient at times and web designing humbles me.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I started my business with pure cash flow through barbering. I’ve been an entrepreneur for 10 years now. The single most pivotal resource is credit. Having good credit and knowing when to leverage it. Buying supplies through my credit cards and paying them off for cash back rewards. There are periods where I literally only put money into my business. Being able to produce is an important part of business. The money has to be spent in order to create the product you need. The most money I spent putting a painting together was $350. The raw materials , customization and also getting it prepared to ship.
