We were lucky to catch up with RoSundra Buck recently and have shared our conversation below.
RoSundra, appreciate you joining us today. Who is your hero and why? What lessons have you learned from them and how have they influenced your journey?
Hmm. That’s actually an easy question to answer. My mother is my hero. She’s my hero because she has played a valuable role in my success personally and professionally. My mother has been one of the very few constants in my life and I owe her more than she knows. I’ve learned to not put my faith in things I cannot control. I’ve learned not to dwell on things I cannot change. I’ve learned that just because others have a hard time doing things does not mean that will be my fate. My mother is what we call a “diamond” in the ruff. Her ability to turn negatives into positives have helped me with my mental instability at times. My mother is the type of woman that does not let defeat over take her no matter what. She has never crumbled under pressure from what I have witnessed and experienced from childhood to adulthood. My mother has always been the type of person to want better for our community and youth which is where I get my consistent need for wanting better and more for myself. She does so much for me and my sister that I don’t think we will ever be able to repay her. She gives me hope, strength, and guidance and I will forever cherish that.
RoSundra, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello everyone! RoSundra Buck’s the name and crafting is the game…no but seriously. I grew up in a small town where everyone knows everyone. It can be quiet there, but when something is happening it is definitely happening. I am a member of one of the greatest historically black sororities in the nation, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and BOOM, that’s where it all started. Before joining the sorority I used to help my mother create things to gift to people who were being initiated into different organizations including organizations that were not affiliated with a sorority or fraternity. I was able to put my creativity to use and offer support to my mother while doing it. After about 4 years I decided to turn my hobby into an actual business. I love crafting and creating things that have never been seen or heard of before. So in 2020, I decided to make it official and come up with a legitimate name for what I did. I wanted the name to be something that represented the main focus of my crafts at the time. At the time, I specialized in custom paddles and other wooden things such as picture frames, coasters, and decorative letters. Thus, Paddle VibeZ LLC was born. Paddle VibeZ became a way for me to express what my mind wanted to say most times while creating things that were unique. Each thing handmade by me is exactly that, unique. No one thing is exactly alike unless it’s requested to be that way. I have a history of customer service experience which makes dealing with customers the easy part for me. I try my best to please all of my customers daily. I offer as much advice and guidance on items when customers are placing orders or have specific requests for things. One thing I can definitely say is that practice is the best teacher. I have perfected my craft so much that it adds fun to what I do. My business has expanded over the past 3 years, and with that I have added many things to my list of products. I offer customs in everything on that list. To name a few things offered: paddles, bookmarks, keychains, badge reels, pens, door hangers, and coasters. The thing I am the proudest of is having the courage to officially do this. I have very high hopes of one day expanding and becoming a national well-known creator. My hope is to be able to create things that bring smiles and peace to customers lives in every way possible. I want potential followers/clients to know that I take a lot of pride in my items whether big or small. I want them to know that anything created by me is made from my heart, but my hands do the work.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
One of the most effective strategies that have helped me grow my clientele has been word of mouth and social media. Social media has grown so vastly that it had to keep up sometimes. I think technology plays a part in that. I have a small gift shop in my hometown where I am also able to showcase much of my work and things offered. I’m a very talkative person so any opportunities that arise to promote my business I take it every time.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
When I first thought of creating a social media platform form I thought about the audience I wanted to draw in. I never had a preference in the who, but more so the when and how. Social media is still a new thing for me as far as business related things like promoting and advertising. I want to one day be able to offer compensation to someone to run my social media pages. I’m so busy that at time I forget to post some days. I definitely have to get better in that area until I can meet that goal.
