We were lucky to catch up with Rossmond Chark recently and have shared our conversation below.
Rossmond, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
It takes effort and consistency to be successful. Although I may not be using the exact words, someone once told me “if you do nothing, in five years you’ll have looked back, and realize it’s going to take five more to achieve the same goal. But if you’re taking steps, even if they’re small, you’ll eventually get to where you’re going”. The point of the conversation was to realize that no matter how long it takes, you won’t be in the same position if you’d just start. And how easily a 5 year journey can end up costing you 10.
Success will always look different depending who you’re asking but for me, to be successful, you have to start. And once you take that step, take another, and keep stepping. It doesn’t matter how long it may take, if you skip a day or a month, as long as you keep at it, you’re already succeeding in life.
Rossmond, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Of course, I got into the modeling industry after being asked to participate in one of the shows I was set to perform in, and I just kept going from there. Self-discipline came naturally after learning how it felt to give up. I took about a two-year break and experienced how hard it was to put myself back out there. So, when I come across a day I’m not feeling it or am going through a storm in my life, I always remind myself how far I’ve come, and how much more work it’ll take if I let it get the best of me. It always motivates me to pick myself back up and keep doing whatever I’ve set my mind to.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect is the people I meet, and the energy exchanged. There’re some really sweet, likeminded individuals who become your friends outside of modeling. While working with photographers, hearing their commentary during a shoot always gets me, and the more excited they are, the closer you know you are to the shot. And as for influencing, getting to work with brand that’s truly care about their customers and products or giving back for a good cause is extremely rewarding.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Of course, as we know, I took a break to tend to my mental health a few years ago. Well, here I am today, in the same predicament, grieving and hurting, but not giving up. As unfortunate as it is, life never stops so I refuse to let my circumstances stop me. That goes for everything in my life, no matter what is thrown my way, I will keep going and work through any and all obstacles meant to shape me.
