We caught up with the brilliant and insightful ROSS JUNIOR OWUSU a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
ROSS JUNIOR, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been one of the most interesting investments you’ve made – and did you win or lose? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
The best investment i owe to myself was the dedication and commitment i pledged to myself and investing meaning and purpose in me to be an Artist. it was not an easy decision to make on my own, coming from a family of Science field related. Growing up in my family had its standards and educational acceptance even with your choice of school, my parents liked my skill of fixing and repairing electrical gadgets so i was applauded and hailed to be an electrical engineer. having passed my Basic Education Certificate Examination (B.E.C.E) in 2008 and gaining admission to do Visual Arts brought up a lot of topics on my family discussion table. They questioned the worth of why Visual Arts and even Ceramics Art, i remember onetime my father asked my to emphatically discuss the prospects of visual arts and ceramics as an economical support for me and my family in future, to be honest i was scared as young boy asked to picture my life ahead but the harder the questions came the tougher i built my mentality not to prove the worth of my career decision to them but to myself and to make it work out and worth it and i would say it has been worth every mental ‘money’ put in.

ROSS JUNIOR, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I respond officially to the name Ross Junior Owusu but my friends and colleagues call me Tyron Ross Jnr or Anyemi ( a Local Ghanaian tongue in Ga which means My friend ). Born, raised and bred as a Fante from the Gomoa Buduatta in Central region in Ghana. I gained admission into KNUST in 2013 and completed a four year degree program in Ceramics in 2018 where after I served as a Teaching Assistant and course Instructor till 2022. I am a Master of fine Art (M.F.A) student at WayneState University with focus in ceramics Studio Art with an expected graduation date in December 2025. my Conceptual art expounds on both the inner and outward interaction between myself and my environment. the bias and unethical government institutions against fair labor and cultural stereotypes. whereas my craftmanship artworks lives between functionality, design and its aesthetics from indoor to outdoor art and design products. I would say my training through school and work has thought me to be a master of many things and a jack of many trades.
I am both humanly peculiar and a unique Artist in my thought process and conceptual consumption which distinguishes me from similar field professionals. what I am proud of as an Artist is physically and mentally creating the space that both artist and regular folks can connect and relate to so that my Artworks lives on continuously and infinite.
I am passionate about learning to impact and been impacted to learn. My long-term career goal is to work as a Practicing Studio Artist and an Art Professor, mentoring and inspiring others to be Artist be it professionally or unprofessional.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I want young people to find the voice in being what they want to be positively in career paths. Sometimes i think of what i would have become if i chose to go by what my parents wanted me to be. not that parents decision does not matter but they should guide the wards to define what and who they want to be. we all like to do things but the passion to do what you would want to do should not be left out because eventually it will be you out there in the wild. understanding who i am and my environment and what am going through is key and necessary in my creative journey and to create that representation as i navigate through.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
well we are have different narrations, perspectives, opinions and meaning to one thing and a lot of things. my most rewarding aspect of being an Artist is bridging the points between concept, form and its relatable representation. imagining more than a single mind finding a connection to my artwork to make it live as they were the artist of my creation, to think is different, to do is different , to show is different and to talk about is so much different but to create that central door or window to connect all these and give it one opening perspective is the most satisfactory and most rewarding aspect of me being an artist
