We recently connected with Roslynn Fleming and have shared our conversation below.

Roslynn, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?

The initial thought of starting my business was in my senior year of high school in 2017. Being one of many that wore their natural hair, I decided to do a big chop and my hair grew tremendously. People started to express interest in my hair journey on what products I use to manage and grow my hair.

Roslynn, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

It took until 2019 to make a business plan on how I will provide beauty hair and body products. In 2020 I registered my business as Resplendent Queen and obtained the business requirements such as EIN, business bank account, e-commerce, and purchased inventory. I learned how to start a business by personal research then I started to meet and network with other entrepreneurs that provided valuable information on how to start and manage a successful business. Resplendent Queen provides self care essentials. Self care starts with you. It’s the routine of providing essential love to yourself to be the best version of you. As of now we offer beauty, hair, and body products and we’re continuously expanding. Our mission is to offer essential products to enhance one’s daily self care. Within two years of being in business, I have obtained two magazine interviews, over seven billboards across the MidSouth, hosted an entrepreneurship event, and other opportunities. I’m most proud of my personal and business growth. Despite the tough challenges, setbacks, and lack of support and funds, I still continued to accomplish starting and maintaining a business.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?

Starting out I did not know the answers, even today being a part of many successful entrepreneur events I’m still learning. Discipline, risk, and budgeting are some of the key factors. Yes, it’s going to cost you a change of mindset, time, and personal funds. When I started my business I had to work two full time jobs so I could fund both personal and business needs. I had to practice discipline to budget, save, and invest into my business. In order to be successful you have to already have the mindset that you are capable of success. Success starts with you not the result.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?

When you need guidance on staying focused, thinking positive, taking risks, and reaching your highest potential, I recommend the book, The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale. You want to change in your life you have to be willing to change in your mind.
