We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rosie Daniel a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Rosie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Rosie Daniel started LuLit’s Hair Essence LLC in Evansdale after suffering from alopecia as a child and my adult life. I had even went to extent of getting injection in the top of my head to make my hair grow in that area. Finally, after camouflaging and covering up my bald spot that became difficult to deal with, was when I knew that If I was going to start a business that it was going be one that would benefit me and my family, so with that’s when the thought came to mind that I wanted to do something more for myself and to help those suffering from hair loss like me that were ashamed to talk about hair loss in public.
Thus, the idea for LuLit’s Hair Essence was born. These natural hair products have been life-changing for many, and a personal journey for myself and my daughter Aariona, who understands the importance of hair care and maintenance.” After experiencing hair loss for so many years.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
Rosie Daniel started LuLit’s Hair Essence LLC in Evansdale after suffering from alopecia as a child. Camouflaging and covering up her bald spot was difficult to deal with, so Rosie wanted to do something more to help those suffering from hair loss. Thus, the idea for LuLit’s Hair Essence was born. After losing her job in October of 2018 from a shoulder injury, Rosie wanted to develop a way to supplement her husband’s income, as going from two incomes to one was difficult. In July of 2019, Rosie’s hard work paid off, and she was able to launch LuLit’s Hair Essence LLC from her home in Evansdale Iowa. What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I have found that telling your own story helps customers feel that they aren’t along. The best way to talk about your products and what they offer is for you to share your personal experience with them. I try to make a must to reply to the emails and telephones as much as I can I also love to do surprise deliveries in my community. I’ve built and is continuing to build my brand on self uplifting and empathy because losing your hair isn’t something that we generally like to talk about with strangers, or even share with our family because we’re feeling embarrassed because the loss of our hair, and that is why I take my customers privacy very seriously, I make them feel welcome to talk to me about their hair issues or concerns when asked about LuLit’s Hair Essence benefits.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I have built my brand on social media platforms from day one after all I was self-taught to my business. I learned everything from the internet. I love being able to interact with my customers on Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms, I love the stories and the pictures they all share about LuLt’s Hair Essence products and their journey. LuLit’s products are available on Minority Black Businesses websites and other platforms making it easier for our customers to find, purchase and learn more about our products. Brand loyalty increased our website traffic, as well as word of mouth reviews. My advice for choosing social media marketing would be to think about the free platforms you are using to reach your customers and their family and friends by just posting something about the amazing things your brand is doing for your customers. Most people are visual when it comes to hair care so what better way to show your brand than social media. It’s the New-Age Platform to promote content for whatever purpose, and it will change things for your business. Stats shows that in 2021, social media advertisements had a worldwide revenue of $153 billion, projected to reach $252 billion by 2026.
