We recently connected with Rosie and have shared our conversation below.
Rosie, appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
It’s never too late! I took a risk and learned to podcast at 57. I’m 60 and loving it!
Through podcasting, I found a powerful platform to inspire and empower others, proving that age is never a barrier to pursuing new passions. I embraced the journey and fell in love with the process, as it allowed me to contribute to a more inclusive and equitable world.
Rosie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Growing up, I was well aware of the underrepresentation of Latinas and Afrolatinas in mainstream media within the science and technology spheres. While I had no prior industry experience, my passion for storytelling and profound belief in the power of diverse narratives fueled my journey into podcasting.
So I immersed myself in extensive research, learning about the technical aspects of producing, editing, and content creation. I embraced the challenges of entering a new industry, resulting in authenticity and a fresh perspective into the podcast episodes.
The journey into the podcast industry has been an exhilarating and transformative experience. It has provided me with a platform to amplify the voices of incredible Latinas who are making a difference and challenge preconceived notions. Through this podcast, my goal is to inspire our audience to embrace their own unique paths and celebrate the power of diversity and inclusion.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My creative journey is rooted in promoting diversity, breaking barriers, and challenging stereotypes. I am deeply passionate about creating a platform that highlights the remarkable achievements of Latinas in science, technology, and beyond. By sharing their stories, my aim is to inspire and empower listeners, particularly women, to pursue their dreams, embrace their unique identities, and overcome any obstacles they may face.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a podcast host is the ability to bring forward the experiences of our diverse community and create a space where listeners feel seen and represented. Through our podcast, which is heard worldwide, we have the incredible opportunity to connect with listeners from all corners of the world, transcending geographic boundaries and fostering a sense of unity. What sets our podcast apart is the special touch of hearing our guests authentically express themselves in both English and Spanish, using words, and cultural expressions, that are unique to our vibrant community.
Latina In America podcast serves as a platform to showcase the resilience, creativity, and achievements of Latinas who are making a profound impact in their fields. By highlighting their accomplishments, my mission is to inspire listeners, to dream big, challenge the norm, and break down barriers.
In this podcast, we prioritize diversity, inclusivity, and authenticity. By embracing our cultural heritage and shared experiences, the podcast creates an immersive and empowering listening experience. The goal is to create a sense of unity among our audience, while also celebrating the unique identities and contributions of Latinas in the world. Together, we are reshaping narratives, challenging stereotypes, and shaping a future where every voice is heard and celebrated.
