We were lucky to catch up with Roshell McKenzie recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Roshell, thanks for joining us today. Before we talk about all of your success, let’s start with a story of failure. Can you open up about a time when you’ve failed?
I’ve failed roughly 2 times with my business. Rosh2Go was actually a side hustle back then because I used to cook on Saturdays only. I had a 9-5 so, I wasn’t focusing on the business 100%. I remember when I had stopped cooking for a while because of delivery issues. I said to myself “Rosh get the business running like now” I needed to get back on track but I had no money because what I was working at the time wasn’t enough to purchase the goods for the business. Thanks be to God for my partner he helped me to bring Rosh2Go back to life.
Roshell, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Roshell McKenzie. I am the owner for Rosh2Go Nyammings. I got into Restaurant and Catering because I cook a lot and persons usually asked if they could get a taste of my meals whenever I post them on Social Media. I looked into it but I wasn’t interested in selling regular meals eg:Rice &Peas/with chicken. I was thinking more of meals that people could get when dining at a Restaurant but use delivery as an option. I sell like Wraps, BBQ Wings,Alfredo Pasta,Loaded fries, Flava plate, Frenzy box etc.
What makes Rosh2Go different is the flavor of our meals! Also, we treat our customers as one. We try our best to work with the budget that they have from time to time just so that they get the chance to taste our meals. They’re free to create their own combo meals as well. I mean… why not allow them to be creative? That helps to grow the business.
The key to operating a business is consistency and discipline. I must say that we’re proud of where we are and we pray that the business will continue to grow tremendously.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Facebook ads. You have to Invest in your business for it to grow.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Discipline. Budget and paying myself fortnightly/monthly was never in my thoughts. As the business grew I learnt a lot on how to operate the business. The do’s and don’ts are very important on how to keep the business at float.
