Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Roshanda King-Moss. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Roshanda , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
Risk taker? That’s me! Since an early age as a child, I have always taken risks, because being challenged is an absolute thrill for me. About 9 months ago I decided that I would take the risk of walking away from a career that I had built in Corporate America being a Systems Analyst to become a full time entrepreneur. At the time this risk was very scary due to me knowing this was a life changing event for myself and my family. I also knew this could be and/or become a very challenging risk if things went south of what I had planned for. I prayed about it and made the step. I considered this to be one of the biggest risks I had ever taken in life, because I know how business can be up and down and the money may not always come as expected. But I also knew I had a vision and that the only way I would be able to sustain and bring that vision to life is to step out on faith and take the risk of becoming a full time entrepreneur.
Roshanda , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Many of you may or may not have read out my story before on VoyageATL. But just a quick reminder, I am Roshanda (“Ro”) the owner of Rozay’s Boutique. One of the most unique boutiques in Georgia. I stress the word UNIQUE so much, because Rozay’s has the ability to dress you for ANY occasion. I got into the fashion industry in late 2018 when I decided that I need “something” else to do with my time and get paid to do it. I instantly started to ask myself, what is it that I enjoy doing? What is something that I could do on a daily and not get tired and/or bored with it? Clothing was the ONLY thing that came to mind due to me being the FASHIONISTA that I am. I consider myself to be very skilled with the vision of being able to pick fashion pieces for not only myself, but for others as well. I am able to look at someone and suggest the type/style of clothing that would work best for them. Which is why I have recently started offering personal shopping services for those who may have the vision, but don’t like to shop or have the ability to style themselves completely based on what they like. At Rozay’s we strive to improve self confidence in all women around the world as they “dress to impress”. Our mission is to ensure our customers feel great about the apparel they purchase and feel just as amazing when they wear it. We offer casual looks, street wear, special occasion luxe wear, urban wear, more. Because we offer this wide range of items this is what set my boutique apart from others. Our customers know that they can ALWAYS find them something at Rozay’s. All of our clothing items are of great quality and we have the best prices to match that. I am very proud of the fact that I have stayed very consistent over the years and continued to provide my customers with the best experience. The main thing that I want our potential customers/followers to know is that we are here for YOU! We ensure you that you feel great about spending your money with us with it comes to your fashion needs.
Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?
Great question! I didn’t mention it before. However, in 2019 I wanted more for my clothing boutique. So I decided that I would add my own personal clothing brand, Respect Clothing. I came up with the name Respect Clothing from the lessons life has taught me and that was to ALWAYS give and demand RESPECT. Respect to me is something that will take you places in life that money can’t buy.
I remember when I first started in 2019 I had a friend that would press my logo on tees for me in only black and white. I modeled those and put them up for sale and the brand took off. I went back and added different styles of apparel and had her to press the logo on the items and they took off as well. So I then began to think, this brand may actually be something big. So I started looking for manufacturing companies, because I knew I wanted to start custom embroidery and I wanted it in big bulks. So I searched, started with a company I found on Instagram. At first it was good, but then I began to grow a little more and I started to get much more particular about the stitching, the material, the look overall. And I wanted the best. So I found another company and another one until I finally got what I wanted. Long story short, I have two manufacturing companies in place that I use to manufacture this brand for me. I decide on the design/style I want for the apparel and they make it happen. While working to make this brand the best that it can be, it has definitely taught me patience. It’s okay to take a step back and come up with a plan to stay consistent so that the brand grows in the best way possible.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I would definitely say my authenticity is what helped build my reputation in my market. Letting people know the real and see the real me. The market that I target wants to see who they are dealing with and ensure you are not out here just doing and saying whatever to make a sale. My market knows I am very hands on when it comes to my brand. They know I am going to try it on and approve it before I can attempt to make a sale or even show the world. I am very particular about my brand so anything that could ruin my reputation I can’t be apart of. When it comes to me, you will know what you are getting at ALL times.
