Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rosemary Tovar. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rosemary, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Looking back at internships and apprenticeships can be interesting, because there is so much variety in people’s experiences – and often those experiences inform our own leadership style. Do you have an interesting story from that stage of your career that you can share with us?
My journey into photography and film began long before I stepped foot in college. In 2016, I started my journey into photography, fueled by a passion for capturing moments and telling stories through images, it soon became my humble small business. At the same time, I began making videos, which blossomed into a love for filmmaking and editing. That was just the beginning…
By 2019, I was ready to take my passion to the next level. I entered college with a clear vision of my future, but it wasn’t until I met some of the most determined professors that I truly found my path. Their enthusiasm and expertise ignited my passion for film, solidifying my decision to declare it as my major.
Throughout my time in college, I immersed myself in a variety of film classes, each focusing on different aspects of the industry—editing, narrative structure, special effects, documentary filmmaking, screenwriting, and more. What I loved most was the collaborative environment where we could explore different roles within our film projects. This hands-on experience allowed me to discover what I truly enjoyed, from directing to editing.
In addition to my major, I decided to minor in photography, deepening my understanding of visual storytelling. This minor was a transformative experience where I learned not only the fundamentals of digital photography—composition, lighting, and editing—but also the art of traditional techniques like camera obscura, film photography, and developing prints from 35mm to 4×5 formats. Learning to use the Hasselblad camera and experimenting with creative techniques such as cyanotypes enriched my skill set and artistic vision.
One of the most memorable aspects of my photography minor was a course my Film Photography class took at the Pajama Factory in Williamsport, PA, a historic place known for its artistic atmosphere and vibrant creative community. All thanks to my professor for getting us a class where we did Cyanotypes using the sun.
A truly impactful experience was working on a film internship project called “Brave Little Hawk”, directed by Leah Bedrosian Peterson, one of my amazing professors at Lycoming College. This opportunity was invaluable; I learned not just about the technical side of filmmaking, but also the importance of collaboration and creativity. Working alongside talented alumni and peers, I gained insights that have shaped my perspective and skill set, preparing me for any task that comes my way on set. This experience helped me with my own film project that I directed for my capstone in my senior year of college. A film project called “Una Rosa Se Marchito” a personal narrative story about family, love and grief through the relationship of a young girl and grandma.
The connections I built with my professors and classmates were just as significant as the technical knowledge I gained. They became mentors, encouraging me to push my boundaries and explore new ideas. My college experience has been a transformative journey that reinforced my love for photography and filmmaking and solidified my place in this vibrant industry.
Looking back, I realize that each step—every photo I took, every video I edited—was a building block leading me to where I am today. My passion for photography and film is more than just a career; it’s a lifelong adventure filled with creativity, collaboration, and storytelling.

Rosemary, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For those who don’t know me, I’m Rosemary, born and raised in Northside Houston, TX, right by Downtown. I’m proudly Mexican-Salvadoran, and my heritage and upbringing have deeply influenced my perspective and creativity. I’m a photographer and aspiring filmmaker with a passion for storytelling through visual art. Interestingly, I didn’t initially think I would pursue photography as a career. I’ve always appreciated and admired art, but my goal was to become a YouTuber and make videos. When I received my first camera on my 15th birthday, my eldest brother also gifted me a photography class. I was hesitant at first, unsure of what to expect, but as the class went on, something just clicked. I realized photography was more than taking pictures—it was a way to create art and tell stories, a medium through which I could capture life’s moments with meaning and beauty.
Since then, I’ve developed my craft into a business. Today, through ‘The Vintage Productions,’ I offer a variety of photography services and soon plan to expand my work into videography for future clients and projects. My niche is lifestyle photography, but I do a little bit of everything—from portraits to sports to events and beyond. I’m open to various types of photography work, with a focus on bringing each client’s unique vision to life.
What sets my work apart is my dedication to blending art with authenticity. With each project, I pay close attention to detail and prioritize my clients’ vision, creating work that feels both meaningful and timeless. My background in both digital and traditional photography techniques allows me to bring a unique perspective to my projects, combining classic artistry with modern techniques through my lens.
I’m proud of the connections I build with my clients and the moments I’m trusted to capture. To me, photography and film aren’t just about aesthetics; they’re about preserving memories and telling stories in a way that resonates. I want potential clients to know that when they work with me, they’re getting a creative partner who’s passionate about bringing their vision to life in the most beautiful, authentic way possible.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My ultimate goal is to become a film director and bring authentic stories to the big screen, representing my culture and heritage in ways that resonate deeply with others. With my experience and the unwavering support of family, friends, mentors, and professors, I truly believe this dream is within reach. This journey is fueled by a passion to create narratives that make people feel seen and proud, and I’m committed to sharing these stories with the world. This path is a passion for me, and while there are always obstacles and moments of doubt, I know that staying focused and continuing to fuel this fire within me will get me there.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part is bringing ideas to life and seeing them resonate with people, making them feel joy, seen and connected.
