We were lucky to catch up with Rosemary Scheppske recently and have shared our conversation below.
Rosemary, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Have you ever had an amazing boss, mentor or leader leading you? Can you us a story or anecdote that helps illustrate why this person was such a great leader and the impact they had on you or their team?
I was blessed to have a supervisor that turned into and remained a dear friend to this day! I met her for the first time in the community while I was set to shadow her for the day. Through the 2.5 years we worked together, I watched her lead our case management team well. She led with integrity, respect, and kindness. I remember her leading by example in the way that she served her clients and the team. She invested in each person and always celebrated the wins, in and out of the office. She even attended my wedding!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m an LMHC (licensed mental health counselor) practicing in Davie, FL. I currently specialize in working with couples. I also work with teens and adults individually. Early in my career, I worked in the South Florida community with children and families. I was trained to treat trauma, behavioral challenges, and parent-child relationships. I have now honed my practice to my current specialty.
I am Level 3 trained in the Gottman Method, a highly effective treatment for couples. I use this approach whether in traditional sessions or couples weekend intensives. The intensives take place over two days for couples who need to address critical issues and see results quickly. I am also passionate about integrating Christian counseling and the Enneagram, a tool for personal growth and development.
I love to connect with clients and partner with them in their transformation. I have always loved people and their stories. Growing up, I spent time reading and participating in musical theatre. I saw how a story can inspire and connect people. I am grateful every day that I have the honor of meeting with individuals as they navigate their own.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
I am confident that this career is exactly where God wants me to be right now. If I could go back, I would make the same choice. Careful thought and prayer went into the decision, because I actually changed my major from theatre to psychology in my sophomore year of college! I knew counseling was my career, and theatre was an important part of my life in a different way. When I made my decision, I thought about what I wanted to do every single day.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I like the saying “I can do anything, but not everything”. Especially starting out in case management, people in the helping profession learn to wear lots of hats. This can be great exposure for learning about the field we work in. However, there are always endless trainings, resources, and books to dive into. It’s become important for me to focus in on what I’m most passionate about. Everybody has a different role, and that makes the community of therapists in South Florida that much more beautiful!
