We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rosemary Galore a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Rosemary, appreciate you joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Not just a business owner but also the star of the show!
What does it take to make my drag brunch business successful… tough question that’s easy to answer
It takes a passion, drive, determination and a ton of glitter, corsets and heels!
Creating the biggest show in town has not been an easy feat to accomplish. You have to find the right mix of drag entertainer to create the show and the right host to keep it strung together seamlessly. I have created a wonderful space for all guests to come and live their best most sparkly life during our lively show.
It takes more than just fierece drag entertainment too, I have a dedicated team creating and selling our fabulous merchandise, web designers, graphic artists and the best marketing and advertising team you could possibly imagine. Now you take all of those components and put Rosemary Galore at the helm and you’re ailing to success!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi everyone, it’s me Rosemary Galore – you’re new favorite drag queen!
I’m a resident of Palm Springs which just happens to be a Drag Sanctuary City coined by our Mayor in 2023!
I grew up in performing in the dance industry since the age of 9, then danced all around the world in dance companies and was a featured dancer for Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. After traveling the world I settled back home in the San Francisco Bay where I taught dance, choreography and judged national dance competitions all over the country!
I found my way to Palm Springs in 2016, had both hips replaced, THEN found my love for drag!
While healing from my second hip replacement, I found myself walking in heels with my walker! I had a local queen paint me and I was hooked instantly!
I started drag 6 months before the pandemic and during the lockdown I created a fabulous green screen show and really worked on my persona and makeup skills (which is really hard btw!)
A few months after the pandemic let us go back into the public I started my business, PS Drag Brunch. On a wonderful rooftop with the most scenic views, it was spectacular! and now almost 4 years later that once a week show has grown into 6 weekly brunch show and I have expanded and now have a brunch show on the Las Vegas Strip called Sin city Drag Brunch!
PS Drag Brunch is a once of a kind show where you get to meet the queens, spend time with them and then scream and cheer as they strut their stuff! I offer an elevated drag experience, I offer things no one else in the industry offer, intruiged? Come see for yourself!
If you had asked me at 39 yrs old, are you going to be a drag queen with the most successful brunch show in California I would have looked at you like a crazy person!
You know, a lot of people feel a certain kind of way about turning 40… however they call it your Fabulous 40’s for a reason and I am living proof of that!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Before drag was even a glimmer I was a dancer. I grew up watching old Hollywood musical and told my mother once when I was a roly-poly 9 year old – I want to do that, she said …sing? I said NOOOO Tap Dance! She enrolled me inclass the next day and my life had begun!
I danced everywhere, at home, in the car at my desk at catholic school, even down the long glorious aisles in the grocery store (those were my favorites). I trained 5 days a week and competed on a national level. I then went to and joined different touring dance companies which eventually led me to the wonderful years spent as a featured male dancer for Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. AFter travelling the world entertaining I decided home is where the heart is and moved back to California. There I began teaching dance and was assistant director for 16 years at a very successful dance studio. I was also touring around the country judging national dance competitions, I had a very active dance career…. until the arthritis crept up.
There wasn’t much time from when I noticed a flexibility change to the almost immobile state that was to follow. My dance career was over just like that.
For a bout 5 years I was in incredible pain, you’d think i was 100 years old by the way i stood up and sat down and slowly walked…
Then I moved from San Francisco to Palm Springs, things got better! I found a surgeon who would replace my hips, all the surgeons in SF said they wouldn’t touch me until I was 50! Well, there I was in miserable pain for years and now light at the end of the road! So, at 39 the first hip was replaced and at 40 the second!
Having a new lease on life was amazong, zero hip pain, my knee and back pain were suddenly gone as well! And what emerged next was just about the most wonderful thing… ROSEMARY!
At 40 years old I have 2 new hips, a new career, I am performing again and with a new world blossoming around me anything was possible!
And now just 5 years later I own my own drag business, the best drag brunch in California, and have a sister brunch in Las Vegas right on the strip which is no easy feat to accomplish !
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Building a reputation in a market you’ve never been in before can be quite challenging…
Rosemary did it somewhat organically, we never paid for followers. With a great combination of marketing, advertising and having something fabulous and original to market everything seemed to fall into place.
Having a drag business means you are standing up in front of everyone saying look at this an judge it. So we made sure whatever it was we were to show them had to be top notch.
PS Drag Brunch started off with top tier talent in the drag entertainment industry. That plus Rosemary’s charm and wit were a recipe for success.
Rosemary is polished, glamorous, witty and razor sharp. She decides the content and entertainment for the shows, she creates a standard unlike any other show. She also fosters a sense of family within the backstage area.
Everyone feels the love and laughter when they are at PS Drag Brunch, in the audience or behind the scenes
