We recently connected with Rose Whear and have shared our conversation below.
Rose, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
Prior to being a freelancer I had dabbled in photoshop for the old greatestjournal/tumblr days… but following my parents advice I went into Healthcare as a Dental Assistant, where I kicked ass for 6 years. That’s when covid hit and I had no clue what we were going to do! The Dental field was one of the first to be jobless… I had to take a risk. That risk was jumping back into the freelance world. I took my skills I knew and grew Rose Ella Media. The biggest risk I could have taken for my family.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Rose is a creative slashie (an internet jack of all trades) from Hampton Roads, born and raised, studying for her Bachelors in Graphic Design & Media at SHU. Her life mission is to make the world a little bit brighter with her high energy. Being a mom to six tiny humans, she thrives off of coffee, as you can imagine-her family all has such different, vibrant personalities, so she has to keep up. As a teen mom, Rose has literally climbed tremendous mountains to get where she is today. Rose was a dental assistant for seven years prior to becoming a freelancer and will never look back. She is an Aquarius and will ask you what your sign is the moment you meet her. It’s just her thing. Big huge Enneagram 2, so her friends would tell you she’d give the shirt off her back to keep you warm even if she was freezing, which she always is btw. A fun question to ask Rose is “Are you an introvert or extrovert?” and she will honestly get stopped in her tracks-she likes to say she is 50/50. Half of her wants to sit in the house and work, work, work, and the other half has FOMO af for not being out and about.
Rose asked a few friends what they think of her, and here are some things that came to mind: far from boring, willing to be there no matter what, ambitious, sarcastically hilarious, the hardest worker they know, unique. On a normal non-work day, you’d probably catch Rose re-arranging her house for the 3838th time with an Odesza mixtape playing in the background.
How did you build your audience on social media?
My number one advice for building an audience on social media is to BE. AUTHENTIC. Show up as you, not as what you think others want you to be. Create what you want. Post what you want. You will find your tribe, because that’s what your vibe attracts.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I first started Rose Ella Media, my intentions were to be a Self-Care account. I know I know, not another one! I quickly realized what my passions were and that was brand design. I had to pivot quickly… I was sick of creating and that’s never a good feeling. You never want to feel burned out from what you love! If this happens, take time to readjust, to pivot.
