We recently connected with Rose Ryan and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Rose thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
In 2017, I had to close my first fitness studio due to various reasons but right before I closed, I met this incredible woman, Kristin. She was super shy at first and felt funny coming into my small group training. Once the group and I convinced her to join us, she started to open up. She started to work harder, work stronger and become much more confident. It had only been a few weeks and I learned I had to close my studio. I was heart broken for many reasons but all I could think about was the fact that I did not want to let Kristin down. I didn’t want her to lose the momentum she was building. My heart was broken. However, in a sudden turn of events, my husband and I decided to clean out our entire garage and offer it to anyone who wished to join me….hence Garage Girl Fitness. And guess what? Kristin, without a second of hesitation, jumped in and I mean ALL IN. Fast forward, she is honestly one of my strongest clients, one of the kindest people I know and absolutely one of the hardest working humans. Oh…..and she lost 85 pounds. Yes, 85! She inspires me every day to be more creative, stay passionate and love every single day of my current profession!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
As a kid, I always had trouble managing my weight. It always bothered me. Kids constantly picked on me. I was always active but I couldn’t keep my weight under control. During high school, I slimmed down a bit but heading into college, I had trouble managing again. I finally made the decision to make a LIFESTYLE change and not be forced to “diet”. I headed to the gym, started eating “healthier” and never looked back. I lost about 50 pounds and just felt better overall. Yes, I have probably gone up 8-10 pounds here and there but for the most part, I have stayed the same through a lot of hard work, workouts (especially weight training), macro tracking and consistency.
I don’t believe your weight defines you and I wish more women, especially, felt this way. In addition to teaching fitness and personal training, I also became a Nutrition Coach and truly believe being healthy isn’t a number, it is a combination of being active as well as having proper nutritional knowledge. I am a huge fan of “adding” as opposed to taking away. I would prefer to coach someone to add more nutritious foods to their daily menu as opposed to telling them that they can not have certain foods. Knowledge is power.
I have a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice Research and love being a Private Investigator and have had much success. I still consult on the side but health and fitness is my LIFE!
I started teaching fitness in 2003 and personal training in 2006. I absolutely LOVE what I do and I believe that passion sets me apart. To help someone feel better about themselves truly makes me so happy. I live for it. To say I am grateful for the little piece I can bring to someone to make them feel better is an understatement.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
WORD OF MOUTH! I honestly believe Word of Mouth has been my best friend. I have probably picked up most of my clients this way for both nutrition and fitness.
Yes, I market constantly on social media and email at times but most of my clients are referred by other long or short term clients.
I am grateful for each client I have and they know it. I was told years ago to keep friendships out of business. I took the opposite approach and have had the best experience and have also met some of the best friends I can ask for. I am not sure why I have been this blessed but I cherish every moment of it and I often text or message and post on social media to my clients to let them know how important they are to me!
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
Keeping in touch with current clients and many former clients is really important to me. I am told that staying in touch with others is one of my strong suits. Once you are my friend/client, I hope you are my friend for life.
Those who have worked with me or currently work with me know they can expect random messages from me at all times of day just checking in on them. THIS is my “brand”. I like to build others up when they need it because we ALL need it at times. Sometimes a simple message makes someone feel special. I am grateful for this profession. Imagine making someone feel good when they leave you?
