Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rose Galvis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Rose thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
The greatest risk I’ve taken in my life has undoubtedly been moving to Los Angeles, stepping out of my comfort zone in Cali, Colombia, and venturing to live and experience the world in a different way. I had never lived alone before, or been independent, or paid rent. I had to learn to be responsible and to trust in the magic to make things happen. I leaned on art and my artistic abilities to ground my life and, from a dream, build the life I desire.
It’s a risk that has been worth it because it has led me to discover myself, to grow, and to confront myself. It has allowed me to analyze all limiting beliefs, and one by one, replace them, gaining the confidence to believe more in myself and my potential each day.
Undoubtedly, today I see challenges as a very important part of life because they make your brain start to step out of its comfort zone and lead you to expand, to want to know yourself, and to grow in all areas of development, as long as you face them in with integrity and a good mindset.
Rose , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have been an actress since a very young age. School bored me a lot; I was only happy when I was in theater, choir, or doing crafts. I always created imaginary scenes of what could happen; I loved to distract myself to be able to live in my own world. My parents saw this potential in me and decided to take me to regional channel acting events, and that’s how I was chosen to be in a movie. After that, destiny took me to Bogotá, where I participated in “Historia de Hombres Solo para Mujeres” and other projects for the Caracol channel, where I solidified my passion for acting.
I returned to Cali to finish my studies, and when I completed all the academic requirements, I decided to study acting again. That’s when my career really began. I started to participate in important theater productions such as “OPCION MULTIPLE,” “LA CASA DE BERNARDA ALBA,” “BIENVENIDO A GIRASOL,” “A LA DIESTRA DE DIOS PADRE,” and had significant roles in series like “LA ESCLAVA BLANCA,” “LA RONCA DE ORO,” “ESO QUE LLAMAMOS AMOR.”
It was precisely at that moment when I made the decision that I wanted to make it to Hollywood, to act in English, and to be part of the film industry. I arrived as a student, and in just my first year, I got an agent, I became the face of a skincare product brand, appeared in two music videos, one for (G)I-dle and another for JLO, and starred in one of the most important theater productions of recent times, “THE MOTHERFUCKER WITH THE HAT,” playing Veronica’s role.
I am very grateful for everything that has happened and very excited for what is to come. I love taking different acting workshops to keep myself active in the arts. I love acting, and I don’t see myself doing anything else apart from that.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
In a revelation, it became evident that the lesson to be unlearned was the confinement of identity solely to acting, rather than embracing the broader role of a CREATOR. This epiphany arose from a societal landscape of stringent labels and judgments, fostering a realization that self-definition need not adhere to a singular mold. Upon relocating to Los Angeles, a myriad of artistic possibilities emerged, dismantling the previously perceived constraints. Formerly ensnared by a narrow perspective, the realization dawned that diversity and innovation are inherent to the creative process. Through forging connections within the industry, self-imposed limitations dissolved, allowing for a profound appreciation of individual talents and the cultivation of confidence in personal capabilities for both realization and creation.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The power to bring life from what’s written on a page. To imbue nuances and qualities into a character and lend my body to embody the journey of human existence.
On a collective level, I would say it’s about connecting with incredibly talented individuals who inspire me through their diverse perspectives and stories. Collaborating with them allows us to grow both as individuals and as actors and artists
