Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rose Catherine Hohl. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rose Catherine, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
To single one project out would prove very difficult for me, as all my work really feels like one big on going project with no clear ending. The photographs I have been continuously creating over the years are all snapshots in a bigger picture. It’s the means to create that’s important for me, to explore who I am through the process, and find connection with people and places around me. I often daydream about characters and stories that I feel compelled to bring to life, to express a point of view that my words cannot. It truly is so special to me that I am able to create a little beauty in this world with the extraordinary help of all the wonderful people I have worked with.

Rose Catherine, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a Detroit based artist and photographer of people (mostly). My style would roll up portraiture, editorial, and fashion all together. Often capturing women in unique settings, my work lends heavily to female strength and empowerment. I often find myself portraying my subjects in a galvanizing way. I focus on balance and lean on color to express my sentiments. My work is sweet & spicy, playful yet sophisticated, exploring personal themes of my own life in an abstract way. Being the conductor of my own play is extremely rewarding. Often orchestrating from top to bottom the characters and concepts, I bring a lot of myself into my work. There are always personal elements sprinkled throughout the visual stories I weave.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Connection and self exploration are huge diving forces in my life. To have an outlet for expression is so monumentally important for anyone, and that is my number one goal above all else. Feeling seen and heard through my work is such a rewarding by product, especially when others connect with it as well. Photography is one of the few things that has stuck with me throughout my life, and has given me the ability to communicate in a way that feels true and authentically me. I see so much beauty and potential when I peer through the lens.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Cinema and music hypnotize me! Both were integral in my upbringing and have continued shaping my world ever since. Much of my work is in fact inspired by the music and movies I’ve been digesting since birth, blowing nostalgic air into the heartbeat of my imagery. I’m a very sentimental being…
