We recently connected with Rose Aitken and have shared our conversation below.
Rose, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
In the last few years I have been working on combining my intuitive understandings with art. Starting during COVID lockdown, I began to paint… I would say channel, face after face. I came to realize that these were individuals— guardians, guides and ancestors. At the same time I began a study of the Tarot. I did this with the intention of learning this modality as a way to focus my intuition. I have always been a person who has interacted with those on the other side. I have had countless experiences with spirit, premonitions and moments of knowing. Seeking a way to be in charge of these aspects is a challenge. At some point in early 2024, I woke in the middle of the night with an idea. Most of my great ideas are given to me in the middle of the night. The idea was to use the Tarot to channel which guide is stepping forward for an individual and then to paint this guide. This guide is my artist interpretation with individual details and colors and is meant as a reminder or talisman of the concepts embodied in the chosen Tarot key.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Once I had my guide painting idea… I spontaneously walked into Olympia’s Psychic Sister store. This was unplanned. I told an individual in the store about my idea and they offered me a table in the front of the store to try out my idea at the spring ‘24 ArtsWalk event. They were so supportive and encouraging. Despite my reservations and fear, I did the event. And it was amazing! I made about 30 guide and guardian paintings and the response was overwhelmingly positive! I asked for feedback from clients and was affirmed over and over.
After this event I started to delve further into my study of Tarot and channeling my intuition. I made the decision to jump into attempting more psychic mediumship reading, not just the guide painting.
So, again another leap of faith and a scary one… this August, I vended at the Ocean Shores Metaphysical and Wellness Fair. This time, I pulled a key, determined a guide and then risked psychic readings with my guide painting. Unbelievably and surreally, I had 20 successful psychic readings with amazing connections and conversations with people. We worked on cutting cords, problem solving, visualization and even had a grandma and sister show up from the other side. It was amazing.
From here, my goals are to continue my practice and study and then to do more readings with paintings.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I feel led in this creative journey. The ideas and actions have just come to me unexpectedly. I feel guided, led to an unknown, uncharted realm. I am enjoying the journey and interested to see where it goes. I am also writing a do it yourself book featuring my guide artwork as well as instructions for people to be able to do this work independently.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
In this particular creative venture, having meaningful problem solving conversations with clients and creating a painted talisman for them that they resonate with and can refer to is incredibly rewarding.
