Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rosario Moore. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rosario, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
My journey into the world of books through creation began in 2019. In that year, the world changed for everyone with the pandemic. Seeing so much sadness in people but at the same time so much help that many people gave on social networks, mainly through free classes for children, motivated me to give something to the community. With my experience as a teacher, I embarked on my journey as an author and illustrator of my bilingual books, THE WHOLKS. I started writing my first story, “Coloring the Gray World.” The story that I dedicate mainly to my children is that they begin to color their gray world again through gratitude for what we have. The world was full of sadness at that time. That’s how I could share wonderful stories based on values, gratitude, and positive affirmations, among others, with children, mainly of young ages.
Rosario, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a Mexican author and illustrator living in the United States. I have more than twelve years of experience in teaching. I love the idea of being a motivation for little readers to start their reading habit from a young age through my characters. I am motivated by the idea of being a tool for power to address such vital issues as gratitude, affirmations, self-love, achieving goals, and self-control, among others. One of my goals is to motivate children to start a second language and be inclusive through language.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
One of my goals is to motivate children to start a second language and be inclusive through language. Represent through my bilingual books that just as two languages fit in a single book. We can be the different cultures living in a single country in healthy coexistence with love, respect, and acceptance. I currently have seven books published. New projects for the Wholks are coming next year. There will be a diversification of the series in which you can find educational, informative, and adventure series, to mention a few.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most important thing as an illustrator is to captivate my little readers through fun, tender characters that are easy to love. I love the idea that children love the characters for how they look but also for the unique personalities that each of them has. The world of illustration is fascinating; you can express ideas without using words.
