Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rosanna Siracusa. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rosanna, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry
With aesthetics being a multi-million dollar industry that’s always evolving, everyone wants a piece of the pie. However, the trend we are seeing with the rise of social media is the plethora of misinformation being spread and people listening to ‘influencers’ and not industry licensed professionals on ways to take care of their skin.
Rosanna, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Rosanna Siracusa and I was born and raised here in southern California. I’m half Assyrian and half Italian, married to a fantastic and supportive husband and we have two beautiful boys. I own a boutique skincare studio in the heart of Woodland Hills called RSN Skin Co. I have been a licensed esthetician for over 6 years. I have always been a lover of all things beauty and I credit my cultural background for that. We have a lot of hair stylists, makeup artists and beauticians in my family so its something I’ve always been around. I graduated university with a bachelors in journalism, however, I didn’t feel fulfilled and knew in my heart this career path wasn’t what I wanted. I enrolled in a local beauty school, and instantly knew on the first day this was where I was supposed to be.
Since the beginning of my career I wanted to specialize in inflammatory skin conditions like acne and rosacea, The skin is our largest organ that is both fascinating and complex but misunderstood. I wanted to educate the masses that taking care of our skin is not about vanity or a luxury, that its a necessity. Just like brushing our teeth or eating a nutritious diet, our skin should be viewed with the same importance. It is a living breathing organ that protects us from harmful environmental stressors on a daily basis.
I was very fortunate to be newly licensed and get my first job at a medical spa working alongside some amazing physicians. I gained so. much knowledge and experience by working on people of all ages and all ethnic backgrounds.
With all that training, I felt comfortable to branch out on my own and start RSN Skin Co. In my studio I provide a wide range of treatments to target different skin concerns and conditions from acne, rosacea, hyperpigmentation, age management, etc. I incorporate different techniques and modalities to give clients the most effective results. In my field I am known for my extraction work and helping clients manage acne. I feel so blessed to be able to connect with my clients on such a personal level and just watch their confidence build with every facial or custom routine they get from me. Our skin can be such a vulnerable thing to discuss and trust someone with so I am so blessed my clients chose me to be their esthetician. I am really passionate about this type of work that I constantly want to better myself and continue to learn and expand my knowledge. There is always room for growth and my commitment to provide the best service and experience will always be my top priority. That’s something you can say I am most proud of.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
This July will be 3 years I’ve had my studio and the start of it happened right before Covid-19 hit. That was the most challenging thing I had to face as a business owner. In California we had so many closures so I got really nervous that my business wouldn’t survive. I had to do a major pivot in my operations in order to try and generate some income. I literally just spent thousands getting new inventory and supplies that I couldn’t return.
I came up with a virtual consultation program during the shutdown and was able to provide skincare advice and education through FaceTime. Clients were able to book an hour session with me where we went over everything from medical history, lifestyle habits, what products they were using at home, then I would create a custom regimen plan for them. They would receive their products and step by step instructions from me. This became really successful and I was able to help clients from all around the country. I still offer virtual consultations today for those who cannot come in to see me in person.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Instagram has been the best marketing tool for my business and its something I always recommend to those who are new in the industry. It’s a free platform to market yourself and showcase your work. With instagram, I really focus on creating educational content through videos and graphics. I love doing reels to show behind the scenes into the treatments I offer. I started doing reels of different facial techniques and they started to get traction because of the relaxing element to them. My advice is to go for it and not worry about going viral. Just create the content you want and keep posting.
