We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rosalyn Jefferson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Rosalyn, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
The biggest risk I’ve ever taken was walking away from my career that I thought I’d spend the rest of my life doing… and doing so without a plan! Talk about crazy! A mother of two with no without a plan, a little bit of savings and tons of postpartum depression. A wild suggestion from my sister landed me in an esthetics school and never in a million years did I think I would be in school again departing from my years in the hospitality industry. The goal was to just get a job in spa where I could perform body waxing and facials where I did not have to worry about managing anything or anyone but myself and go home and then end of the day stress free. Little did I know that this was just the beginning! This journey into esthetics lead me to the biggest risk ever! Starting my own esthetics business from my home. It’s been rough and rewarding all at the same time. My business has blossomed a home based business with not clientele to a long list of repeat clients in a salon suite and it’s no telling where will go from here!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As an esthetician, I have the unique opportunity to help people feel confident and beautiful in their own skin. I am a master of skincare, and my expertise and care make a real difference in the lives of my clients. Hunny Bee Beauty aims to aid women of color tackle skin imperfections, unwanted hair, and boost self confidence via skincare and waxing services. Our top services are customized facial treatments, microneedling, chemical peels and Brazilian waxing. Skincare and hospitality merge into one from the moment our clients contact us. Current and potential clients should know that their dollars and time are not taken for granted. It takes incredible trust to put your vulnerabilities into the hands of someone you hardly know and my goal is to leave them feeling closer to their goals each time they leave an appointment.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Being true to who I am, listening to the clients needs, offering services that produce results and of course great customer service.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective thing has been taking care of the clients you already have! Once you’ve earned their trust they come back, and not only do they come back, but they tell a friend or two or ten! Word of mouth has been so incredible for me in addition to having a web and social media presence.
