Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rosalinde Clara. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rosalinde Clara, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My mission is ‘adding beauty to the world one pattern at a time’.
I think that we can all agree that the last few years have been more difficult than most. There is so much uncertainty and unpredictability in our day-to-day lives that it can often be hard to find a calm space. As someone who saw their anxiety levels start to creep up in recent years, I really had to focus on the things that I could control instead of the ones that I can’t. And one thing that I can control is my art.
My art allows me to take time every day to just sit, relax, block out all the outside noise and focus all of my energy in one calm place. Nothing is telling me what I can and can’t create. There are no outside forces dictating what I should be creating.
Art is my calm space and I want to be able to share that with others. Whether it is seeing a beautiful image on their feed or being able to purchase an elegant piece of home decor, I want to be able to share beauty and calmness with anyone who might need it.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
For as long as I can remember, I have always had an interest in art. I have tried my hand at many different types of art including painting, drawing, sculpture, glass blowing, sewing, clothing design, ceramics and so much more. It wasn’t until 2020 that I discovered the incredible world of surface pattern design. Suddenly, there was a whole world of opportunities in front of me. I discovered that I could use my art to decorate almost anything you could imagine. From fabric to wallpaper to stationary, the possibilities seemed almost endless.
I immediately dove headfirst into this incredible new world. I registered for an amazing course, dusted off my pencils, and got to work. I discovered that I have a love of florals, and the colour blue and I lean towards a more muted colour palette (although not always!).
My ultimate goal is to add beauty to the world. Whether someone likes one of my designs on Instagram or purchases a piece of home decor, I want them to feel joy and a sense of calm.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I am a big believer in mindset. I truly believe that you need to vocalize your goals and put them out there to the universe, whether you talk about them to people in your trusted circle or you write them down in a journal. Articulating your goals will help them become real and solidify them in your consciousness.
I recently came across a journal entry where I future journaled where I wanted to be in one year and every single vision and manifested itself.
A few of the books that have helped me stay focused on my goals have been – Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy, The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks, Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T. Harv Eker and I am currently listening to The 4 Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferriss.
Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?
I have tried various POD sites and my biggest piece of advice would definitely be to order samples. Product quality can vary greatly between sites so it is very important to test out the products that you are interested in selling.
Also, make sure you do your research. With costs rising daily, some POD sites have started raising their fees and those fall back directly onto the artists.
