Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rosalie Jade Tanzillo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rosalie Jade, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
A couple of years ago I made the decision to take a break from my jewelry business, which at this point had always been a side hustle, and accept a job designing full time for a fine jewelry line. The opportunity felt inconceivable – that I could get paid to simply design jewelry, without any formal training, and solely based on my creativity. I wouldn’t have to worry about any of the all consuming tasks required of having my own business and I would just get paid to create. Pretty dreamy! So I took the job and put my business down for a moment. For a while, my life was pretty cool. I got to design jewelry for a living, work from anywhere in the world and have an extremely flexible schedule. But after some time, I began to feel out of alignment – I really missed creating my own art, which I couldn’t do while I was working for someone else. I also am a hustler by nature; I love to be goal oriented and busy. Having the free time but not being able to create my own jewelry with it was really hard.
It has now been about 6 months of me being back to owning/creating Rosalie Jade Jewelry full time and I am back in my groove. I have come to realize that creating my own art and sharing it with the world is integral to my being. Yes, I am super busy dealing with all of the tasks of a business owner/creator, and its scary and it’s tiring and I really don’t know what is around the corner, but I love every minute of it.
I have the deepest knowing that I just need to keep making heirlooms that I truly love and feel connected to, and everything else will work itself out. I think it is important to manifest what you want out of your business but it is equally important to not put too much pressure on the outcome of your wants. As simple as an inhale and exhale, if you put in the effort, the universe responds back. I truly learn something of value on a daily basis but what resonates most with me today is 1) I have learned to be very patient, beauty takes time, and 2) Keep it light, stress is never worth it. For now, I trust that I am exactly where I am supposed to be.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Rosalie Jade Jewelry is an ongoing project exploring self expression and adoration in the form of heirlooms. Each piece is an artwork containing layers of my soul and pieces of everything on this earth that inspires me. The most beautiful thing to me about jewelry is that each piece means something unique to each person. A gold pendant can invoke emotion, tell a story, be a declaration of love, a reminder of who you are and where you came from, an amulet of protection or simply a statement of beauty. Adorning yourself in jewelry is a way to cherish and express your individuality, bringing you closer to the divine within. Not only is jewelry made from ancient elements like metal and rock but heirlooms can be passed down through generations, carrying eternal energy. Jewelry is timeless and will forever be my favorite medium.
Working with my hands has always come naturally to me. I have been designing and creating since I was 5 years old, beading bracelets at night with my mom and selling them to my friends on the playground for $1. Oil painting was always my favorite medium, so when I was introduced to the method of lost wax casting to create jewelry, I was smitten. To be honest, I actually hated it at first – so tedious and frustrating. But eventually, I learned to create shapes in the melted wax that made sense and I fell in love with this organic, paint like method. Now I create all of my pieces by hand with the lost wax method, which keeps my pieces completely unique to my hand.
When you are buying a piece of my jewelry, you are buying a unique piece that cannot be purchased anywhere else on the planet. You are purchasing jewelry that is hand made to order in small batches, locally, ethically and sustainably. You are not only buying adornment, but artwork that contains a little piece of me that will become a little piece of you.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I try to stay active on my social media accounts and active with my email list. I don’t want to be overbearing, but I think it is important to have a presence and I think it is most important to remain authentic in that presence. I will only post photos, video, and information that feels truly authentic to me – and if I don’t have anything to say, I won’t force it. I like to think of marketing as an extension of my artwork, so it is important for me to reflect that.
If a piece is taking longer than expected, I make sure to reach out to my customers and keep them updated on the entire process. If I am working on a new collection and haven’t posted anything new in a long time, I make sure to tell my clients that I am busy working on new pieces. I think little forms of communication like this help to keep a balanced relationship with my work and with my clients.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
“If you want something to get done right, you have to do it yourself”
Over the years I have had to let go of control when it comes to all aspects of my business. I can’t do everything myself and is just silly to thing that I can. The art of delegating tasks has made my life so much easier and less stressful. Through this I have also learned patience. Although it is easier to delegate tasks, sometimes it means things take longer and you have to depend on other people. I deal with this by putting less pressure on time frames. Creating and sharing art is wild ride. I have learned that the process is almost always going to be messy and most definitely not timely.
