We recently connected with Rosai 🤍 and have shared our conversation below.
Rosai, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Often outsiders look at a successful business and think it became a success overnight. Even media and especially movies love to gloss over nitty, gritty details that went into that middle phase of your business – after you started but before you got to where you are today. In our experience, overnight success is usually the result of years of hard work laying the foundation for success, but unfortunately, it’s exactly this part of the story that most of the media ignores. Can you talk to us about your scaling up story – what are some of the nitty, gritty details folks should know about?
My modeling journey has definitely had it’s trials and tribulations. When I first started, I really didn’t even know what to do or where to start. Luckily I had some great people guiding me and helping me network but that didn’t last forever . Eventually , I hit a point where it felt I was not active enough to achieve where I desired being. That really took me to the next level, changing my mindset. After that shift in my mental, I started going harder . Still, not getting the static I felt my art truly deserved, I continued to invest in myself. Which , in turn definitely worked in my favor . I started networking more and by just being myself and easy to work with.. came more opportunities. I think making sure ,in an industry like mine, that you are outgoing, creative, kind, and UNAFRAID to be unapologetically yourself will get you really far.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I’m rosai , and I am a model. I’ve been interested in modeling since a really young age , but never got into it until I was about 17. I’m 23 now so I’ve definitely had a lot of great opportunities and experiences within the industry at this point . I’d say I’m most proud of how hard I’ve pushed myself to be at the point I am today. Though my work is far from over , I have come a long way. I’ve experienced inconveniences, uncomfortable settings/positions, and just overall sensory overload at times but it has all been worth it. It has helped my character development so much. The main thing I want everyone to know about me as a model, is that I do it not only for me but for my art . For the love and joy it could bring others as well. I truly believe what I do is an art and it drives me to be more creative with every shoot I put out .
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I’d have to say a good presence. My energy is always on 100% walking into any gig even if I’ve had troubles within my personal life. Whether that be a bad day or anything that could have affected my mood prior to walking on set. I leave all of that at the door . I put my all into things and I am genuine with everyone I’ve worked with and I know they can see that. That’s why they continue to come back and ask me to work. Sometimes I’m the first person they’ll think of when new opportunities arise . That lasting impression goes a long way. Not to mention I’m always cracking jokes to help things be more comfortable. Who doesn’t like to laugh?

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Something I had to unlearn was being shy to pose anywhere at anytime . As humans sometimes we can get easily embarrassed.. I found myself not taking those risk shots in the beginning and missing amazing opportunities to capture something beautiful. Now, I have taught myself to be unapologetic about when, where, and how I shoot. Has it gotten me into awkward encounters? Yes. Dirty looks? Yes. I’ve gotten kicked out of places and yelled at… but it was always worth it. I have some beautiful shots because I became NOT afraid to be as out there as possible with my craft. Those encounters were temporary but my art is forever🤍
