We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rosa Linda Cruz. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rosa Linda below.
Alright, Rosa Linda thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
My journey began in the educational setting transitioning from reading teacher to school counselor. A few years later I made the decision that I wanted a stronger foundation in counseling in order to provide more skills and resources to my students so I became a certified licensed professional counselor. During this time, I discovered laughter yoga and became certified. In addition, my first children’s book was published. Thus, my entry in providing presentations on well-being strategies, self care tips and wellness skills to communities.
Rosa Linda, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My private practice includes counseling services, promotes mental health awareness, and provides presentations to educational settings, corporations, and community events on well-being strategies to incorporate in a professional and personal environment. I am an author of children’s books and workbooks which were inspired by my grandchildren and community members. The books are available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Walmart, and Dymocks. As a certified laughter yoga leader, The Benefits of Laughter & So Much More, an interactive and engaging presentation continues to be requested by businesses encouraging wellness and self-care for their employees. Honors include being nominated 100 Women in South Texas for making a difference in the community and Valley Women Inspire.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I have found that when in the midst of hardships and challenges it has allowed me to evaluate my options on how to grow around these situations. Having faith in my ability to move onward and seek out people and resources that support and encourage my growth and lifelong learning has provided me a foundation of opportunities to grow a private practice, write books, and present to communities, organizations, and agencies.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
My heart has always been in education with a counseling perspective. Taking steps to broaden my field of expertise and talents and surrounding myself with mentors who shared their knowledge, experiences, and support. I started by providing pro-bono presentations. This created opportunities that presented themselves by providing me a new journey encompassing everything that I love to do. In addition, I was blessed to have mentors who planted seeds that I could create and expand my own business.
