We recently connected with Rosa Barber and have shared our conversation below.
Rosa , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
I’m an Epidemiologist by Day.. but my passion, just as my ancestors is Fashion and making the oddest clothes look fashionable and comfortable. During the pandemic I battled with depression and claustrophobia. So, to get out of my funk I started going to consignment shops and hobby lobby, gathering fabric and other items. That’s when I created my first pair of custom and unique Crocs. I wore them out to o think Target and a young lady saw them and she wanted some, she like how I had jewels and bangles hanging from them and thought they were unlike anything shed seen. I posted a pair on Facebook and Instagram and started getting tons of inboxes about how to inquire a pair! It was AMAZING because I’d lock in my garage and created me a workstation and zone out being creative. It brought me so much peace of mind and that’s when “Sole Power Customs” was birthed. We are now a year and a half in my creativity!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Each pair of Crocs are unique. I actually have conversations with my buyers to gauge their personalities, because I want my Customer Crocs to tell “their” story beforehand. I’m most proud of journey. I want my Customer to feel beyond important and special.

Has your business ever had a near-death moment? Would you mind sharing the story?
I’m still in the process of picking up my business. I’m still learning different strategies for growth and I really hope that I could capture that one Invested person who would be willing to take a chance on me. I would make them so proud because my drive speaks for itself. SOLE POWER CUSTOMS was birthed to help me get through a depression and my diagnosis, and it has saved my life. My heart goes into each and every pair of shoes I create.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source is supporting your own brand. I wear my Crocs as promotion, to the grocery store, mall, school, etc. I accessorize my outfits to bring out my outfit and I create earrings, tshirts and barrettes/headband. You can dress Sole power customs up or down for any occasion. I am a huge fan of Crocs because they are extremely comfortable, and although I’m a “Girly Girl” I hate wearing heels but every outfit doesn’t mesh well with Crocs you know, UNLESS… THEY’RE BEDAZZLED! That’s when I birthed Sole Power Customs. An all-exclusive custom design for your Crocs, matching your style.
