Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rory Anderson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rory, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the story of how you went from this being just an idea to making it into something real.
It all started back in high school in Australia. I’d always been captivated by the world of storytelling, and that really set me on my path. I remember working on a short film for a local competition, pouring every ounce of my time and creativity into it, and then we won. That moment was huge. It was the first real feeling I had that maybe this was something I could do long-term. After that, I decided to go to film school, where I really got my hands on more advanced equipment, learned techniques, and began building out my portfolio. I started working for a cable/TV network, which was a fantastic way to understand how things run on the business side and gave me a steady flow of projects that taught me about efficiency and handling larger teams.
My first real leap happened when I landed a chance to work on a documentary about Quincy Jones. Moving to Los Angeles for that opportunity was surreal; Quincy’s career was so inspiring, and it allowed me to immerse myself in high-caliber projects, with the documentary ultimately winning a Grammy. Working with Quincy for six years taught me about the depth and discipline of the creative process—skills I knew I wanted to bring into my own projects.
After years of experience, I knew it was time to start my own company, RorZfilms. Transitioning from idea to execution involved a few key steps. First, I had to make a realistic plan about how to position myself in the industry. I spent time researching companies and understanding what kind of content was in demand, especially in the automotive world.
Then came the logistical side. I had to register RorZfilms, secure funding for high-quality equipment, and set up a solid online presence to showcase the projects I’d been a part of. I began building a team of creatives whose skills complemented my vision, and we quickly started picking up projects for brands worldwide. It wasn’t an overnight success; it took consistent effort, reaching out to potential clients, and slowly building a reputation. But having that solid foundation—one project at a time—is what truly allowed me to launch RorZfilms in the way I’d always imagined.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
So, I founded RorZfilms, my production company, which specializes in creating high-quality video content for brands, companies, and individuals. We’re known for our work with automotive brands, luxury lifestyle clients, and experiential content that captures the unique essence of each brand. Our services include producing commercials, brand stories, event coverage, social media content, and even cinematic short films. My team and I create visually rich, story-driven content that can take the viewer on a journey, whether it’s a high-energy car commercial, a cinematic hotel experience, or an ASMR series that draws audiences into the details.
What sets RorZfilms apart is our ability to craft each piece of content as its own story, even in short formats. We focus on quality, creativity, and the emotional connection each piece can spark. I think my background in music documentaries and filmmaking gave me a unique perspective on how to layer sound, visuals, and storytelling to capture an audience’s attention fully. Clients come to us because they want more than just a video—they want a story that engages their audience and enhances their brand’s image.
What I’m most proud of is how RorZfilms has grown into an internationally recognized brand with clients around the globe. I’m thrilled that we’ve been able to build a portfolio that captures a range of emotions and visual styles. To potential clients, followers, and fans, I want them to know that RorZfilms is about creating experiences through film. Whether we’re filming Supercars, crafting cinematic travel experiences, or working with a brand to create standout content, we’re committed to excellence and innovation. I believe that in each project, we’re pushing the boundaries of what brand storytelling can achieve.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Building my audience on Instagram to 97K followers has been an exciting journey, and it all started with a clear focus on my niche—automotive content. When I first began, I knew that in a saturated social media landscape, it was crucial to carve out a unique space. I dedicated myself to creating high-quality reels that showcased not just the cars, but the culture and stories behind them.
Consistency was key. I committed to posting daily, which helped keep my audience engaged and coming back for more. Over time, I noticed that certain types of content resonated better with my followers. Whether it was behind-the-scenes shots, stunning car features, or exciting driving experiences, I made it a point to pay attention to what my audience responded to the most. I fostered a community of car enthusiasts by actively engaging with them—responding to comments, asking for feedback, and creating content that reflected their interests.
Another important lesson I learned was the power of adaptation. If a particular post or series wasn’t performing as expected, I didn’t hesitate to pivot. I explored different formats, themes, and even collaborated with other creators in the automotive space. This flexibility allowed me to refine my approach continually and find out what worked best for my audience.
For those just starting to build their social media presence, here are some key pieces of advice:
1. Find Your Niche: Identify what you’re passionate about and what makes you unique. Focus on that niche to attract like-minded followers.
2. Prioritize Quality: Invest time and resources into creating high-quality content. Clear, visually appealing posts stand out and are more likely to be shared.
3. Be Consistent: Create a posting schedule that works for you and stick to it. Consistency helps build trust and keeps your audience engaged.
4. Engage with Your Audience: Respond to comments, ask questions, and create content based on feedback. Building a community is about connection.
5. Adapt and Evolve: Don’t be afraid to try new things. If something isn’t resonating, analyze why and make adjustments. The social media landscape is always changing, so be ready to evolve with it.
6. Collaborate: Work with other creators and brands in your niche. Collaboration can introduce you to new audiences and provide fresh content ideas.
7. Utilize Analytics: Pay attention to insights and analytics provided by the platform. They can offer valuable information about what content works best and how your audience interacts with it.
Ultimately, building an audience takes time and effort, but by staying true to your vision and being responsive to your community, you can create a loyal following that shares your passion.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is witnessing an idea transform from a mere concept on a page into a fully realized piece of art on screen. It’s an incredible journey that involves countless hours of brainstorming, planning, shooting, and editing, but seeing that evolution is truly magical.
When I first sketch out an idea—whether it’s for a film, a commercial, or even a short social media reel—I can almost feel the energy and potential behind it. The process of bringing that vision to life, collaborating with talented individuals, and overcoming challenges along the way is exhilarating. But what really makes it fulfilling is the moment I finally share it with an audience.
Seeing people’s reactions to the content I’ve created, hearing their feedback, and knowing that the story or message resonated with them is what drives me. It’s a unique connection; art has this profound ability to evoke emotions, spark conversations, and inspire others. Whether it’s a comment from a follower expressing how much they loved a particular video or an audience member sharing how a documentary impacted them, those moments make all the hard work worthwhile.
Additionally, I find immense joy in knowing that my work can contribute to someone’s experience, whether it’s bringing excitement to car enthusiasts, sparking nostalgia through music, or simply providing entertainment. As an artist, being able to create and share those experiences is the ultimate reward, and it fuels my passion to keep pushing boundaries and exploring new creative avenues.
