Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rooty Red. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rooty, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
I would say two of the best impactful things that my parents did right was provide guidance and financial literacy. My parents directed me in ways that has help me become the independent woman I am today. A lot of my life and financial lessons has helped me grow my career as a DJ. They’ve taught me so much about credit, growing a business, saving, and dedication. There were moments where I never knew where life would take me, especially moving to another state to build my own life and brand. Without them, I don’t know where I would be mentally and financially.
Rooty, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m known was, DJ Rooty Red. A DJ, producer and entrepreneur originally from Chicago, IL. I had got my start in 2017 after relocating to Dallas,Texas. I started off working three jobs and coming home to practice what I considered my “escape from reality” a.k.a Djing. I was to the point where I was tired of living to survive. I wanted to do something I knew I was passionate about. Since then, I have been booked for over 500 plus shows, and performed for over 100,000 people across the Nation. I’ve collaborated with Grammy Award winning artist Muni Long, the late Nipsey Hussle, and Grammy Award Winning songwriter Seven Streeter. I can honestly say I have also worked with Platinum Selling Recording Artist Mario, Jaquees and Morray to name a few.
In 2019, one of my proudest moments was when I became the CEO of my own production company called “RootyBeatz,” and founded my lipgloss line called “RxR Lipgloss,” with over 2,000 sells worldwide.
In 2021, I produced my first project called “That’s What She Said” charted no. 35 on iTunes. I received major Airplay on FM radio stations Westside Connection (89.6FM) in London, and Power203 FM in Connecticut ,with a total audience size of over 2 Million listeners.
My vision is to continue to inspire other woman who are in a male dominated industry to be bigger than just a “pretty face,” and display actual skill. Most of my work can be displayed on my website at www.RootyBeatz.com.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think what helped me build my reputation is the capability to network and maintaining those relationships. When I play, I provide an experience! It is important to show love even if it doesn’t seem like that love is being shown back.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
If I could go back, I would’ve still chose to be a DJ. I enjoy all aspects of it and it has open so many doors for me.
