Achieving success often involves navigating through numerous failures. Embracing failure rather than fearing it is crucial. Personally, I’ve faced many setbacks, but each failure has been a learning experience that has contributed to my growth.
When I first launched my cleaning business, I had little to no experience beyond cleaning my own room. I wasn’t well-versed in the industry, but I did have a strong understanding of technology, which allowed me to build an effective website and generate leads. Overcoming each challenge has brought me closer to success and has been instrumental in my journey.

Hello, I’m Roohil Hamid, and I run a successful cleaning business based in San Diego. My journey into this industry began with a leap of faith and a willingness to learn. Initially, I had no professional experience in cleaning—my expertise was limited to tidying up my own room. However, I recognized the importance of technology and saw an opportunity to leverage my skills in this area.
I launched my cleaning company with a vision to provide top-notch cleaning services that cater to both residential and commercial clients. We offer a range of services, including routine home cleaning, deep cleaning, and specialized commercial cleaning solutions. Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
One significant pivot in my life occurred when I transitioned from being a trader to starting my own cleaning business. For several years, I was deeply immersed in trading stocks and futures. It was a high-stakes environment that required constant analysis, quick decision-making, and a keen understanding of market trends.
However, in 2022, I realized that the trading world was becoming increasingly challenging and less fulfilling for me. The volatility and demands of the market were taking a toll, and I found myself wanting a change. I began reflecting on what I truly wanted to do and what skills I could leverage in a new field.
In early 2023, I made the decision to leave trading behind and venture into entrepreneurship. I chose to start a cleaning business, a field where I had no prior experience but saw a significant opportunity. While the shift was daunting, I was excited about the prospect of building something from the ground up.
This pivot required me to learn a completely new industry, develop a business plan, and apply my tech-savvy skills to create an efficient and user-friendly service. The transition wasn’t easy, but it was incredibly rewarding. I’ve been able to channel my strategic thinking and problem-solving skills from trading into running a successful business.
This experience taught me the value of adaptability and the importance of following one’s passions. It reinforced that with determination and a willingness to learn, one can successfully navigate significant changes and find new paths to fulfillment.

When I first started my cleaning business, I knew that social media would be an essential tool for reaching potential clients and establishing my brand. My approach was strategic and focused on creating valuable content and engaging with my community.
Define My Brand and Audience: I began by defining my brand’s identity and understanding my target audience. I focused on creating content that resonated with homeowners and businesses looking for reliable cleaning services.
Create Valuable Content: I posted a mix of content, including before-and-after photos of cleaning jobs, tips for maintaining a clean home, and behind-the-scenes looks at our work. This content was designed to showcase our expertise and provide value to our audience.
Engage with Followers: I made a point to actively engage with followers by responding to comments, answering questions, and participating in relevant conversations. Building relationships and showing genuine interest in my audience helped foster a loyal community.
Utilize Paid Advertising: To accelerate growth, I also invested in targeted social media ads. These ads were designed to reach specific demographics and geographic areas, ensuring that my business was visible to potential clients in San Diego.
Building a social media presence takes time and effort, but by staying consistent and genuinely engaging with your audience, you can create a strong and supportive community around your brand.
