The owner of Nurse Practitioners of Florida Ronsha Brown, not only owns her business in South St. Petersburg but was born and raised here. She is committed to providing excellent care to this community in particular and is proud to call this area her home. Her connection to this community is wide and varied and has been recognized with the Florida Community Service Award as well as recognition from the Black Nurses Rock St. Petersburg Florida chapter for community involvement. Nurse Practitioners of Florida is a small group of women nurse practitioners established July 2018. Our clinic is unique in that it is one of only a few primary care nurse practitioner run offices in St. Petersburg, and the only black woman owned clinic proudly serving the southside community. We are proud to say that in this competitive industry of medical doctors and large hospital owned practices that we have opened a primary care clinic and have been able to keep our doors opens during a global pandemic that began shortly after our inception.
We offer services that are diversified and meets our community needs. We started out as primary care with specializing in women’s health and gastroenterology. We have expanded our services to included, but not limited to , aesthetics, IV hydration, laser hair removal, laser lipo suction and much more.
We feel that we provide a personalized health and treatment plan for each of our patients customized to their individual health needs. Our providers take the time to listen to the patients, give feedback for lifestyle changes and offer other treatment options to ensure that the patient is at their optimum health. Our clinic believes in prevention is better than a cure and we strive to incorporate that vision with all of our patients needs.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Our path to success has been a long and arduous effort for everyone involved. When our clinic first opened, Nurse Practitioners in the state of Florida were not recognized as autonomous healthcare providers. The owner then had to locate a primary care physician willing to “supervise” the nurse practitioners with their patient treatment plans. That supervising medical director was also needed to obtain different insurance payers so that our providers could be credential and contracted with them. This comes with a monetary cost to the clinic to “employee” this medical supervisor to allow us to see a wider population of patients. This has been one of our biggest obstacles as a nurse practitioners clinic. The state of Florida has recently recognized the autonomy of these specific healthcare professionals and providers. However, certain insurance companies still do not allow them to credential independently.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Our clinic has overcome many challenges in the few years we have been in business including a global pandemic and staying opened amidst larger clinics and hospital owned medical offices. This achievement has been through superior marketing and the ability to diversify to new products that are in demand within the healthcare and aesthetics industry. Our providers are nurses specializing as nurse practitioners in primary care, but to stay competitive have obtained specialization in laser treatment options and other aesthetic treatments. These new product lines have been integral to our continued success. We also believe that our success to this point has been our ability to incorporate our mission and goals to a diverse population without discrimination and maintain an excellent rapport to all we serve. We also believe that as nurses first our commitment is to the patient and we are the ultimate advocate for the health success. By developing a treatment plan with patient involvement, accountability, and responsibility. We feel there is a greater opportunity for a better outcome.
