Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ronnie Loyd. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ronnie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Who is your hero and why? What lessons have you learned from them and how have they influenced your journey?
If I’d have to choose a single person I look up to the most, Annie Leibovitz is the first that comes to mind. Her portrait work is some of the most revered in the world. She’s photographed some of the most historic figures of our time such as; Queen Elizabeth II, Barack Obama, John Lennon & Yoko Ono, and so many more. Her ability to take a subject and photograph them in places that they feel most comfortable, such as their favorite sofa in their living room or the kitchen table where they like to have a cup of coffee, and then make the final product look so elegant and polished is a skill I highly admire. Her photography gives context about the subject through setting and actions—a glimpse of life. I try to implement this philosophy of placing a subject in a setting that they feel the most connection to. You’d be surprised by the art you can make if the subject can feel at home, even if literally! The work of Annie Leibovitz will tell the stories of life of earth for generations to come.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hahaha no pressure! Well for starters, my name is Ronnie Loyd and I’m a photographer and videographer based in Los Angeles, CA—I also dabble in tour management too when duty calls.
I was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee and I’m an only child. I never grew up with a camera in my hand 24/7, I was more of an outdoorsy/play in the yard kind of kid. I didn’t get my first serious camera until I was almost 21 years old and finishing my time in the Army. I think it was a Nikon D3700 – I used it mostly for taking photos of my car and others at local car shows in my area.
I branched into music around 2017 when I began to notice photographers at shows I was attending. After digging around and doing some research, I found a local music publication in Nashville that was interested in having me shoot photos of a Krewella & Party Favor show on their behalf. I never had any kind of experience, but they took a chance. I won’t lie, that shit was hard!
I did this for a few months, slowly building my portfolio for myself. One day I took a chance and reached out to Eprom and G Jones about shooting a Nashville stop of theirs. They happily agreed! About a year later I landed my first tour, got fired from my day job, and haven’t looked back since! I’ve lived in Los Angeles now for about 4.5 years and I have never been so happy with my work.
Not long after I moved to Los Angeles in 2019 I had the opportunity to work with artists such as Madeon and Ookay. I never knew then that I was signing up for new friends for life. Working with Hugo (Madeon) and Abe (Ookay) has made me feel more fulfilled in my craft than I ever have before. I’m grateful every single day for their friendship, their collaboration, and their vision. Over the years I’ve watched my style and my process develop into something I’m truly happy with. I owe a massive thank you to everyone who’s ever pushed me to do better or told me that the color on that last edit looked like shit and to redo it! You’re all real ones.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I put a lot of effort into maintaining a friendly working relationship with all of my clients before and after we shoot. I want to foster this feeling of working with an old friend, even if we’re meeting for the first time. Like I mentioned before, it’s really important to ensure the people you work with in this business are comfortable in front of the camera and on-set.
Basically, just be friendly :)

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I want to be able to say that my work, and my efforts, made a difference and an impact on the world—big or small. It makes me happy knowing that my photos and the things that I’ve made will exist somewhere, anywhere… forever.
