Ronnie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The project that holds immense significance for me is my forthcoming body of work titled “Heaven Can Wait.” I’ve been intermittently working on this project since 2020, a year shadowed by the heartbreaking loss of my beloved little sister, Robin. Initially, I hesitated to embark on this endeavor, grappling with the emotional turmoil caused by her brutal murder, witnessing her lifeless in her apartment. However, an inner voice urged me to proceed with the project, recognizing that there are others in the world who have endured similar experiences or who need to comprehend how I navigated through my grief. Though some days are still a struggle, and others are more manageable, amidst this turmoil, I was blessed with the arrival of my first child, a baby girl. “Heaven Can Wait” embodies my mantra that life can be both harsh and beautiful, yet I am determined to persevere, fueled by the responsibility of raising my daughter. This album encapsulates the essence of resilience and the unwavering belief that despite life’s challenges, there is still much to live for, because now, I have my daughter by my side.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Witnessing my mother’s captivating performances at church, where she effortlessly commanded the crowd, ignited within me a desire to emulate that same spirit through rap music. High school was where my musical journey truly began, sparked by a friend who was already immersed in music-making. Armed with nothing more than a rock band microphone and a makeshift pop filter made from a sock, I delved into the world of music production using the program Mixed Crafts. The confines of my mother’s pantry served as our makeshift recording studio, where my friend and I would passionately remix songs by artists like T-Pain and Lil Wayne, putting our own spin on them, albeit with questionable results. Despite our initial shortcomings, my love for music burned brightly during those formative years. Despite the challenges life threw my way, I’m immensely proud that over a decade later, I’m still here, creating music fueled by love and passion. There were countless moments when the temptation to quit loomed large, yet the music coursing through my veins refuses to be silenced; it’s the rhythm to which my soul dances. What’s more, I take pride in creating music from a place of authenticity, untainted by the dictates of industry standards.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My aim in music is to convey the message that it’s perfectly alright to embrace our humanity. We all experience a spectrum of emotions – anger, happiness, sadness – and yet, life persists, constantly in motion as we navigate its twists and turns. Through my songs, I may delve into themes that some find cringeworthy, over-the-top, or laced with sarcasm. However, the paramount message I strive to impart is the acceptance of our fallibility. Making mistakes is part of the human experience, but the most crucial lesson is to never lose faith in oneself, regardless of life’s trials and tribulations.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
One of the most fulfilling aspects of being an artist is witnessing the impact of your lyrics on others. It’s incredibly rewarding when someone connects deeply with your words, finding resonance in them. Through this connection, I often find myself relating to people on a profound level, as they open up and share their own journeys and stories with me. This exchange of experiences and emotions holds far greater value to me than monetary gain. Hearing someone say that my music has changed their life is a priceless affirmation of the power of art and human connection.
