We caught up with the brilliant and insightful RONNA FINLEY a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
RONNA, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
Both of my parents were self employed. They absolutely led by example. My father quoted Albert Einstein, Example isn’t another way to teach, it is the only way to teach.”
My father told me he knew when I was five years old, I would need to be self employed and always pushed me in that direction. He not only led by example, but taught Me to as well.
RONNA, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
When I was young I started college and was unsure of my final direction. I was fortunate enough to take some time off from school. Meanwhile I was having skin issues in the form of hormonal cystic acne. I chose to get facials from an aveda store, and stopped eating as much sugar. I was able to get my skin cleared up. Although I was left with many scars. I began having glycolic peels done to remove my scars. It was madly successful. My confidence was up, and I realized this is what I wanted to do for my life’s career. It was a bonus that being self employed, would be very likely. My father supported it, because, he knew that in my lifetime, many jobs would be taken over by computers, but you can never replace human touch.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
During the pandemic, I realized I had to make the most of my time. I did a lot of product research and experiments. I found some amazing quality products that would separate me from my neighbors and still be a good value to my clients. When I was able to return to work, I was able to share what I had learned. I was somehow still feeling like something was missing. I decided to change my geographic location. I researched states, based on my political affiliation. When I moved, I knew nobody. It took me a minute, but I found the right place. I continued my research habits and was able to add some new services, and with in two years, I am established and performing at a higher rate.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What built my reputation, is my drive and resilience, accompanied with my strive for perfection. You never stop learning. Yes you have to practice what you learn and master it. You must always continue to learn, even if you elect not to implement it. I do not like the spotlight and I am introvert by nature. You must Step out of the box, participate in a competition.
I was nominated one year for best facial in Denver, I hated asking clients to vote for me. But I ended up winning. Was a great accomplishment.
