We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ronisha Joy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ronisha below.
Ronisha, appreciate you joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents allowed me to be a child and taught me to stay in a child’s place. My mother was a bit tough/strict growing up and now I appreciate everything she did because I see how being a grown up is expensive and I just want to be a kid again. My mother didn’t allow her children to work any job while we were in high school. Her reason for not wanting us to work was because she wanted us to enjoy our youth and focus on our schooling but when I went to my dads house during my 11th grade year I got my first job without even asking my parents. Once I secured the job at Kelvin’s Hot Wings I informed my dad and asked him to tell my mom in which they agreed that it could be a summer job. I was so excited! I can most definitely say my parents kept their children out of the grow folks business if they were having problems we didn’t know about it and that was the best thing they could have done.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Joy Ride In The City business has always been to help change the narrative of the City of Memphis. Exposing the locals and tourists to the hidden gems in the city allowing them to see what the news outlets and social media don’t want them to see and that the great things Memphis has to offer
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The best strategy for Joy Ride In The City has been I’m very hands on with everyone. They are able to see, touch, feel me and I offer them a opportunity to hang out with my friends and friends very up close and personal experience. I don’t treat people like money I treat them as if I’ve been knowing them for years. I appreciate my customers and clients.
Conversations about M&A are often focused on multibillion dollar transactions – but M&A can be an important part of a small or medium business owner’s journey. We’d love to hear about your experience with selling businesses.
Once I was a independent contractor for a large corporation making over $140,000 year. This business you were told you would be your own boss but in real life you worked for them. If you decided you didn’t want to work and wanted to hire someone for you they would need to get approval from the corporate office. A group of independent contractors decided to start a class action lawsuit so I decided to take back my life and agreed to participate in the lawsuit. Currently I am now really working for myself as a real business owner and I don’t regret the decision to walk away from the previous business.
