We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rondré “key” Brooks. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rondré “Key” below.
Rondré “Key” , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What were some of the most unexpected problems you’ve faced in your business and how did you resolve those issues?
Last year, I entrusted a General Contractor to oversee the project management of three fix-and-flip properties my company, Property Rush, had acquired. Unfortunately, despite presenting himself as a reputable professional, he misappropriated funds, overcharged us for materials and labor, and ultimately derailed our timelines. His negligence and dishonesty forced us to hold onto these properties much longer than anticipated, costing us thousands in carrying costs and missed opportunities.
As a business owner, this was an incredibly stressful period—especially since we were still in the early stages of refining our real estate investment strategy. The betrayal was frustrating, to say the least, and while I wanted nothing more than to confront him (by punching him in the face LOL), I chose to channel that energy into learning from the experience. Instead of dwelling on the loss, I focused on finding credible professionals to step in and complete the projects correctly, even though it required additional time and money.
Looking back, it was a tough lesson, but one that ultimately strengthened our approach to business. Now, we’re more diligent in vetting contractors and implementing safeguards to protect our investments. Every setback is an opportunity to grow, and this one only made us more resilient.

Rondré “Key” , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a dedicated father and an award-winning real estate professional with over 20 years of combined experience in real estate, marketing, and promotions. Throughout my career, I have successfully sold nearly $50 million in real estate sales volume. As the co-owner of New Way Realty Partners and New Way Property Management, I’ve built a reputation for excellence in the industry.
Beyond real estate, I am a published author of Broken Rungs: A Story of Ambition, Hope, Love, and Life, a personal memoir that shares my journey. Currently, I’m expanding my entrepreneurial footprint by launching Brick & Bird Detroit, a carry-out restaurant on the city’s east side. Additionally, I’m in the process of obtaining my real estate license in Georgia as I work to grow my brand and business into new markets.
My journey into real estate began after receiving a $12,000 settlement from an auto accident. With that money, I purchased my first property—a single-family home for $11,000. Soon after, I became a licensed real estate salesperson in Michigan. At the time, I was financially struggling and searching for a way to rebuild my life. Real estate not only provided that opportunity—it completely transformed my future.
In business, I pride myself on being a straight shooter. I don’t sugarcoat reality or sell false dreams. Transparency and honesty are key in every deal I make, ensuring that all parties can make informed and effective decisions.
What sets me apart is my hustle, tenacity, and unwavering commitment to seeing things through. I refuse to walk away from a project, deal, or relationship—whether personal or professional—until I have explored every possible solution. That relentless drive is what defines me and fuels my success.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I’ve led a life that would make for great cinema. LOL! From being an at-risk juvenile where the odds were death or jail by 21, or the blemished relationship with my biological father that in a weird way, forced me to not make the same mistakes he did in my own life… even the failed romantic partnerships that broke my heart, but fixed my vision. Let’s just sum it up and say that I had no roadmap, no financial cushion, and no guarantees. There were moments when I questioned if I had made a mistake, but I refused to let fear or doubt stop me. I hustled, learned everything I could, and kept pushing forward. Eventually, that one decision led to a thriving career in real estate.
Looking back, that was my first real test of resilience. It wasn’t just about bouncing back—it was about betting on myself when no one else would, taking a risk, and refusing to quit, no matter how uncertain things seemed. That mindset carried me through my real estate career and every challenge I’ve faced since. It’s also the core message of my book, Broken Rungs—that even when life doesn’t hand you an easy path, if you’re willing to take risks, put in the work, and push through adversity, you can create your own success.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
When I first started in the real estate industry, social media played a huge role in helping me build my reputation. It allowed me to connect with people in a way that traditional marketing couldn’t. I was ambitious, driven, and eager to share my journey, and my growing audience became a part of that experience. They saw my wins, my lessons, and my evolution in real time, which created a sense of trust and relatability.
Interestingly enough, I also gained a strong following of female clients who thought I was handsome, which led to the humorous and catchy moniker, “The Handsome Real Estate Guy.” At first, it was just a lighthearted nickname, but it quickly became a branding tool. It made me memorable, helped spark conversations, and even attracted more business. But beyond the name, what truly resonated with people was my work ethic, my transparency, and my dedication to helping clients navigate the real estate world.
As my social media presence grew, so did my recognition. I started getting featured in various publications and media outlets, which expanded my reach beyond just being a local real estate professional. What started as a personal journey soon evolved into a full-scale brand—one that positioned me not just as a real estate agent, but as a businessman, entrepreneur, and industry leader.
Looking back, I realize that social media wasn’t just a tool for marketing—it was a platform that allowed me to build genuine connections, showcase my expertise, and turn a simple nickname into a symbol of trust and success in the industry.
