We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ronda Wright. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ronda below.
Hi Ronda , thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
I started my travel business in late 2019. None of us knew what was just a few months ahead of us with COVID-19. When the pandemic started in the Spring of 2020 and all travel suddenly halted, I quickly had to figure out how I could continue giving my brand new business visibility even though people weren’t traveling. So I made a risky decision and decided to maintain my social media presence and continue communicating with clients. I changed the tone of my messages from “let’s go see the world” to “how to experience the world from home”. Initially, I was nervous on how people would react as there was so much travel-shaming going on and overall a rough time in terms of how people related to each other. But overall, I was successful in keeping my clients engaged with my brand during the pandemic. Now that travel is back in full swing, they know who to trust to give them lifetime memories while they’re vacationing.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
The Wright Getaway was born out of my love for travel. Where I grew up, most of my family and friends didn’t have the means to travel every summer or take luxury getaways during the holidays. In high school, I had the unique opportunity to travel to Netherlands for a summer softball tournament. After getting that experience, my outlook on seeing the world was forever changed!
After being a guest in over 30 countries, visiting 39 of the 50 states in the US, and living in five different states, I decided that it was important to me for more people to see the world and have their own experiences. Travel provides an opportunity to expand your perspective. You learn so much when you engage with other people in their native culture and on their own terms. Enabling this opportunity is a passion for me!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I have a strong reputation in the travel space because I am an avid traveler and people see this from me. They know that I travel regularly within the US and outside of the country. They are able to see the types of hotels that I sleep in and the experiences that I plan for myself. I regularly post to social media when I’m traveling or in airports and provide them with travel tips based on what I’m experiencing. These things built my reputation even before my business began.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
General internet searches have a been a great source of new business for me. I never would have imagined this to be the case! I think this has worked for me for three reasons: 1) people that search for my keywords are actually looking to book a vacation and need assistance, 2) they see that I have a great review rating and can see what other clients had to say about my services, and 3) I have a professional website that they can click on to see more reviews, information about the company, and what services I provide.
