We were lucky to catch up with Ronda Ramsey recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ronda, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
Honestly, my business revolves around my personal life, Education and professional experience. I started my business in 2021 and at that point I was in my field of Criminal Justice, traveling a lot, no children and just loving the life. Even while working I would ask myself “is there more than just coming to work and doing the same thing? I need to be doing something bigger and helping people.” I was dealing with juvenile offenders whose crimes varied from assault, murder, sexual assault and more. I am watching kids anxious wondering if they are headed to prison or will they be on parole or simply be able to just go home. Mental issues were all over and some of the youth, you could tell some wouldn’t make it to see age 21 even 25. Many going right back to the environment that they were in. Now doing this 12-16 hrs a day being in leadership and work phone ringing constantly…..you have to wonder. With all of this came the question, How can I reach these people before their circumstances lead them down the wrong path and they end up in the system?
From there everything just started flowing. It was to the point that I could not sleep, because I would hop out of bed and immediately write in my notepad. So no, I don’t wish I had stared sooner. I started right when I was supposed to and my personal experience, professional knowledge and professional experience got me right where I am today. I needed to see all sides, I needed to get my hands dirty, I needed to enter the lives of all these individuals (Adults and juveniles), I needed my personal life experiences growing up in inner St. Louis City and St. Louis County, I needed the desegregation program, I needed sports, I needed this education. Everything has molded me and continues to mold me as I pursue my dreams of being a positive change agent in society.
Ronda, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello! I’m Ronda, affectionately known as Angel, a passionate advocate for youth empowerment with over 17 years of experience in the field. I am from all over St. Louis City and University City, MO. My journey began with a Bachelor of Science in Criminology and a minor in Sociology from Missouri State University, followed by a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice with an emphasis in Law Enforcement Administration and Leadership from Columbia College. My extensive background within various roles in the Criminal Justice System including internships has equipped me with a deep understanding of the challenges young people face today.
Driven by my commitment to effect positive change, I founded “The Angels Online LLC” to address critical issues such as depression, anxiety, bullying, and grief, which affect our youth. In memory of my late great-grandmother Martha, whose wisdom inspired me to continue helping children, I also established “Martha’s Angels”, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting young people in need. Her legacy fuels my passion for youth advocacy and gives me a sense of purpose in the work I do.
Through both organizations, I strive to give our future a fighting chance. I recognize the disconnect between generations and am determined to bridge that gap by fostering meaningful connections. My approach emphasizes empathy, understanding, and open dialogue, allowing young people to express their thoughts and emotions freely. I believe in the power of vulnerability and actively encourage discussions around difficult topics, giving youths the voice they deserve.
One of my proudest achievements is my ability to inspire young people to maximize their potential and become model citizens. Every story shared with me is a reminder of the importance of my mission, and I am deeply honored to be a source of support for so many. My goal is to continue being an influential leader for youth, empowering them to lead happy, fulfilling lives.
At “The Angels Online LLC” and “Martha’s Angels”, we are committed to creating a safe and nurturing environment where young people can thrive. I invite potential clients, followers, and supporters to join me on this journey of transformation and hope as we work together to uplift the next generation. Together, we can make a difference, one child at a time.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Currently, outside of both businesses, I started to teach. I have been the teacher and I have been the sub. I had to make this move, because 1. I needed income and 2. The youth are my content. I needed to get in and see where the disconnect was, what are the rules like, the structure, behavior, staff behavior and communication etc. And because of my background, I am able to assist not only youth, but teachers as well. I can de escalate situations and help youth get back on track. It is a big shift for me, but I know I want to guide these youth before they get to that point. I speak from experience and I am a realist when talking to the youth. Teachers need guidance also and I have seen it. Sometimes and many, I see the problem being a lack of classroom management. Putting myself in the shoes of others is very important. I see the struggles with the generation today. I see behavior in schools that I would have never presented or put teachers through so I definitely respect educators so much. Then you see the parenting that comes with the students. Its mind boggling sometimes to say the least. I mean I can go get a job in the criminal justice system any time, but I feel working with these youth not in the system gives them a fighting change. We can’t save them all , but if I can motivate, influence or inspire anyone…LETS MAKE IT HAPPEN!!
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source for me has honestly been word of mouth from those I encountered in the criminal justice system, or individuals who understand my mission. Many of my friends/family who just share or reach out when something comes up and they know who to come to. I am here to help and find help from my supporters.
There are many guests I have based on someone knowing they needed to get their story out or just needed guidance and even the kids.
Social media is huge, because I post my content, People don’t know this type pf dialogue exists unless they see it or it gets spread by others. Usually after speaking to people, they are stunned. Remember, I decided to take a risk and never took an entrepreneur class. The blessing for me is my circle. I always tell young people keep good company around and treat people right. You never know when you’ll need them. I am living proof of that, because by the Grace of God, I have an amazing talented individuals I have known for years who back me and look for nothing in return. They just respect the mission and work I put in.
