Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ronald Ruben. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Ronald thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
The most impactful thing my parents have done for me is the importance of hard work. Before they left this earth they would always remind me that Nothing will be given to you and I better not let someone out work me. This principle is something I will carry with me until I leave this earth. It is easy to pray and rest on your laurels. But they always taught me that after you pray, you need to work and actively prepare for what you’re praying for.

Ronald, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m currently a Lead Pastor of Restoration Church of God in Philadelphia, PA and it took me a while to discover my purpose. At a very young age I knew that I was called to serve. However, I was reluctant and preferred to stay in the background. Growing up I stood and saw my parents lose friends and experience church hurt because of ministry. This caused me to run away. I wanted to be an itinerant minister. Preach and go home! However, one Sunday I went to work ( the only Sunday I ever worked) a client stopped me and simply said “You know you’re going to be a Pastor.” My response was “no thank you.” Over the next three years I continued to run from Pastoring. I received prophecies and message saying that I am called to be a shepherd. One day I went to a church service and the preacher called me out and she said “you have a Pastor’s heart” and I was called to a fast where God reminded me of the call on my life I also grew more and more frustrated with the lack of structure and discipleship in my local church. I felt told me that my frustration was a gift and the reason I was so frustrated was because I had solution to that problem..and her I am. With the help of the love of my life, my wife, Faimire, I am walking in my purpose as a Pastor and as a leader. Our goal is empower a generation of beliefs to be more like Jesus and walk in their God given purpose

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
The challenges of being a pastor are frequently contemplated. It is not an easy calling. Over the past five years, I have experienced both highs and lows, moments of great joy and periods of profound struggle. There have been times when I have seriously considered leaving the ministry. The toll it has taken on my personal well-being, my family, and my marriage has been significant. I have pondered the possibility of walking away.
It is true that people often focus on the title and the allure of leadership, but there is a hidden cost associated with this position that is often overlooked. Despite the challenges, I would not trade this calling for anything. The rewards far outweigh the sacrifices. To be an instrument in God’s hands is a privilege. To be entrusted with the vision of creating a place where God’s love can transform lives is a priceless gift.
I am deeply grateful for my church and the opportunity to serve as their pastor. They challenge me, inspire me, and have helped me grow exponentially. I love my church and am blessed to be a part of their journey.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
In essence, effective leadership entails embracing the role of a Servant Leader. Recognizing that as a leader, you possess the opportunity to serve your team is crucial. Contrary to the notion that leadership can be achieved from a position of superiority, effective leadership demands that a leader actively engages with their team, working alongside them. Furthermore, it is paramount for leaders to maintain a deep understanding of their team’s dynamics. By actively listening to their team members, leaders can gain valuable insights that enable them to lead more effectively and find innovative solutions. Through listening to their team, leaders foster a sense of value and importance among their members, transcending the roles of mere followers or employees. Instead, they become integral components of a team, serving as valuable tools in the hands of Jesus.
