Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ronald Dye. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ronald, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
Right now I work full time for the Jared Dalton Agency as the Video Production Specialist. I’ve always had an interest in all aspects of film and the arts. I started off doing music. We didn’t have a lot of money to do videos so I started off my journey by producing our own videos. From there I started producing a TV series called the Mid Week Massacre that aired on the CATV Network in Nashville, TN. I’ve worked with many artists, authors, actors and business owners to help promote them through their endeavors. I’ve been filming for 15 years and have been working in my dream job for a little over a year now. I was relentless in creating a vision that my clients would be happy with. I’ve built my success through time. Everyone’s journey is different and I don’t think there was any other way for me to get where I’m at today if I didn’t learn life lessons throughout this process.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started filming out of necessity to further my music career. I was always a fast learner and could pick up just about anything and learn it. So getting into film was a no brainer. I saw the need and filled it myself. I worked in Customer Service and IT Support during the day (20 years). The job paid the bills. I pursued film and music on the side. I’m working with Final Cut Pro and iMotion for video editing.
Some nights I barely slept over 3 hours. It’s not easy juggling a job, family and the entrepreneur life. I also produced a radio show, managed my own independent radio station just to keep busy at times. That experience helped me talk to people and really get to the core of what people were after.
I’m proud of my work ethic. No one can take that away from me. The need to get things right. I make sure that when someone gets work from me that they are happy. The end product has to be effective with the message a business or individual is trying to convey. Quality over quantity is what I strive for.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Get paid up front or at least get a deposit. If you’re working for free up front, most people are not going to respect your work and run off with the bag. Take one or 2 jobs for free to get your feet wet. After that, there’s nothing wrong with building a relationship with your customer to show that you are a trustworthy individual and can be trusted from the beginning to the end of your process, whatever that may be.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What I say is what I mean. No flim flam floundering. I’m an honest person. That will get you in more doors than you think. People are always watching you whether you know it or not. When you get the reputation for being a straight up guy, the word gets around. Be courteous, be kind, be caring.
My video work is top notch as well. I’ve produced hundreds of videos (reels) that have been seen by millions of eyes. I’m very proud of that.
