We recently connected with Rona Aquino and have shared our conversation below.
Rona, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
I started blogging because I wanted to share how yoga changed my life. It was a really good idea born out of honest intentions. I’m glad I started. Sometimes that’s the most important (and scariest) step, just taking the leap and taking action. From blogging, getting certifications, getting more followers, negotiating brand deals and getting sponsorships – I’ve made countless mistakes that turned into learning opportunities. So that’s my advice to anyone wanting to start a practice, business or creative idea. Don’t be afraid to take up space. Dream big and take inspired action.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a certified yoga teacher, blogger and content creator. I provide resources to busy parents and professionals who may not have much time for self-care. I make quick and accessible tutorials and videos so that anyone can squeeze in just a little bit of mindfulness to their day. Anything is better than nothing! It doesn’t matter who you are or what you do, if you are unhappy with yourself, you have very little to offer anyone. That’s why it’s so important to pay attention to our own well-being. If you ask me what I’m most proud of, it’s my daughter. I always tell her she’s my biggest gift and it’s 100% true. It’s the role I love the most, being her mom.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I thought I needed to buy all these gadgets, yoga clothes and other tools of the trade to compete and start getting compensated for my time and efforts. When I focused more on delivering value, rather than all the bells and whistles, my messaging became more effective.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The best strategy is to consistently keep your audience in mind, what are their needs and wants? What problems of theirs can I help solve? What inspiration can I offer?
