We recently connected with Ron Victor and have shared our conversation below.
Ron, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I did have a regular job as a consultant. I was a programmer/analyst writing computer systems for companies like Bell Labs, AT&T and others.
There were no computer majors when I attended college or I would have gone in that direction at that point. My major was biology and I minored in art. After college, I had to take courses at Grumman Corporation to learn to design and write computer programs.
I always had a creative temperament for as long as I can remember.
After I had designed and written an employee compensation system, Bell Labs hired someone to put together the graphics for my presentation to the top managers. It was at that point that I became aware of 3/D photorealistic graphics. I quickly got up to speed, purchased the necessary equipment and incorporated it into what I offered my clients. You need to understand that the computer is not creating the artwork it is simply a tool not unlike an easel or a paint brush. Now with the introduction of AI my last statement my no longer be true. However, I do not use any software that is AI driven.
The one thing about being creative, at least for me, is that from time to time you have a creative urge that needs to be released. I think this is something hard for a non creative person to understand.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For approximately forty years now I have been creating 3/D photorealistic pieces of computer generated artwork. I started in the mid 80’s with a computer called the Amega Commodore. Back then there was very little memory available so I had to limit the number of items in my artwork. Once I designed the picture and applied the attributes to each object it would take approximately 3 days for the computer to produce the high resolution version of the picture. Often because of the small amount of memory available some pictures would be completed with triangular holes in the image. This was caused when the lack of memory would not allow the computer to do the math needed to complete the picture properly. Current computers with large amounts of memory can now produce complex completed artwork in a matter of seconds.
TECHNAGRAPHY®, as described by Ron Victor who coined the term, is a new art form expressing the imagination and creativity of the artist through the use of state of the art technology as the artistic medium. Literally translated TECHNAGRAPHY® means “ART BORN OF TECHNOLOGY”. Tech is derived from the Greek word TECHNOLOGIA defined as a science of the mechanical or technology. The prefix NA is taken from the Latin word NASCOR meaning to be born or created. GRAPHY comes from the Latin word GRAPHICUS whose translation is mastery of art.
Some of my works have appeared at the Cannes Film Festival in conjunction with a major International Film Division. The animated logo for Metuchen cable television. Showings in Los Angeles, Devin Gallery in New Hope, Pennsylvania and at the Turnberry Gallery in North Miami Beach. The cover and a feature story in East/West Publications Hawaii High Tech Journal as well as a cover for AT&T’s CP Data System’s Journal and a large number of Magazine covers. In addition, my work has been used as covers for math and chemistry textbooks.

Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
I was involved with NFT’s early on. My impression was that this was something that would not be sustainable. In essence you are buying 0’s and 1’s.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I brings me a lot of pleasure when someone comments on or simply likes my artwork.
