We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ron Jeffries. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ron below.
Ron, appreciate you joining us today. Alright – so having the idea is one thing, but going from idea to execution is where countless people drop the ball. Can you talk to us about your journey from idea to execution?
This process hasn’t been an easy one. It’s filled with ups and downs and requires a certain level of grit. I started styling unofficially by doing proms.. I styled my brother’s proms. I had no clue what I was doing but I knew I had an eye. Everyone would tell me you should become a stylist, go into business. But I thought to myself how does one survive or live off of just doing that. I thought it was impossible, but I was wrong. I had so much hesitation and fear. I was a finance guy, who made a decent living, but I was afraid if I followed my dreams it would leave me with nothing. A struggling artist. I spoke to the woman at my finance job, and she told me, “Ron, I’m 50, and out of all of my friends I’m the most financially stable, but also the most unfulfilled, because I never went after my heart’s passion.” She went on to tell me that if I lose it all, I could rebuild it again. After many conversations, and fearful thoughts a client appeared and forced me into this stylist world! I was out there in the deep, knowing nothing, I just had an aesthetic and an eye. I had to figure out this world quickly. I became “TheStylistGuy.” I lost a lot, but I gained so much more. I’ve since gone on to style celebrities, TV personalities, work with big companies such as National Geographic, Adidas and Hershey. I’m not lucky, I’m blessed. From that I’ve learned fear is always a guardian at the door of destiny. And if you have the courage, you will see a great reward!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I quit my job! Lol. I don’t necessarily suggest that route for everyone, but it will cost you something. But I quit my job and became courageous. I hustled for a long time with just one on one clients. It wasn’t until about 3 years ago that I was connected with some amazing people that led to my Segway into tv and film. Since, I’ve worked with Apple TV, HBO, and Disney. I’m so grateful for that.
I call myself Thestylistguy because style is your interpretation of fashion to me. I think everyone’s style is unique and different and should remain that way. My goal is to guide and help people uncover their style and their uniqueness. I do this by consultations and styling sessions. I do virtual, or in person services, so that no matter where you are you have the opportunity to experience my transformative services and become and feel your best you! If you are interested in my services please find me on IG: @thestylistguy
Have you ever had to pivot?
Yes! You have to diversify or die! There are many times in between styling gigs that I had to get a real job. I realized that it is irresponsible to sit back and just wait for a next gig or opportunity and expect to survive. So I have laundry list of professions I’ve found myself in to get to here.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Yes, the mission is dimly this. I’m an artist that transforms lives through the skill of styling. I want the world to know that about myself. And until I get there, I press on!
