We recently connected with Ron Cobert and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ron thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Classically, the list of characteristics includes goals, hard work, persistence, learning and adapting, awareness, resilience, willingness to take calculated risks, collaboration, communication well, and integrity. To give you an example: I saw that someone I knew pulled in 100s of days of shooting karaoke videos, shooting these productions at $10,000 a day for some Japanese conglomerate. I thought, hey, I want to access a client like that in Japan. I didn’t know anything about Japan. I have never been there. So I set out to communicate with someone Japanese to collaborate with. I found someone, went to Japan and set up appointments, pitched and nailed a few commercial production contracts, and years after still, the contracts keep coming, bringing in a lot of money in productions. If I hadn’t taken a chance, nothing wouldn’t have happened.
Ron, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As an advertising and entertainment creative and licensing executive, I wear multiple hats in the worlds of media, marketing, and technology. I have founded Lovelane Music Group, Ohyeahlive Advertising, Sunscope Entertainment, and America Film, and I own percentages in catalogs of music and entertainment intellectual property.
My expertise lies in business development, leadership, media content creation, marketing, and technology, all of which have contributed to successful commercial campaigns, music videos, TV shows, and feature films. Throughout my career, I’ve been credited in various roles, such as producer, writer, director, cinematographer, color corrector, sound designer, editor, coder, and executive. My versatility makes me the go-to person for investors and advertisers seeking to maximize their investments.
What sets me apart is my knack for building robust connections across the industry spectrum. Whether it’s fostering relationships with crew members, celebrity talent, broadcasters, networks, studios, exhibitors, advertisers, or brand executives, I thrive on cultivating these partnerships.
My diverse advertising portfolio spans various industries, including tech, cosmetics, personal care, apparel, and biotech, showcasing my ability to adapt and excel in different sectors.
From crafting compelling ad campaigns to telling gripping stories for film and TV, managing on-location productions, perfecting edits, or securing funding for new projects, I possess the expertise and connections to transform creative visions into reality.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
The advertising and entertainment industries are notoriously volatile, with trends shifting rapidly and unexpected obstacles often arising. During the market turbulence of 2007-2009, I found myself grappling with a declining market. Rather than succumbing to despair, I proactively educated myself in coding and all the new tech dashboards and then sought out new opportunities, diversified my portfolio, and honed my skills. By doing so, I stayed ahead of the curve. This resilience enabled me to not only survive the challenges but thrive in the face of adversity.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Consistent quality, reliability, transparency, innovative solutions, and client satisfaction are the pillars upon which my reputation in the industry stands. Delivering high-quality work consistently across various projects, from crafting compelling ad campaigns to producing captivating films, has earned me the trust and respect of clients and collaborators alike. Consistently meeting deadlines and staying within budget demonstrates reliability and professionalism, crucial for building trust and credibility. Open communication and transparency foster positive relationships with stakeholders, ensuring alignment and informed decision-making. Embracing innovation and staying ahead of industry trends showcase my commitment to delivering cutting-edge solutions, while exceeding client expectations drives satisfaction and loyalty, leading to repeat business and positive referrals.
