We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ron Andre Elvis Telford. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ron Andre Elvis below.
Ron Andre Elvis , appreciate you joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
Initially, I learned the business of music through an internship at Shady Records in NYC. I took extra steps to get involved or learn from every department in that office. I always felt that there’s no reason why a CEO or owner shouldn’t know every aspect of how the business is ran. As I transitioned to a business owner in the music industry, I learned most of what I know now through trial and errors.
Marketing, strategic planning, artist relations and new business development are the most essential skills for our business’ continued success. I think “gate-keepers” always stood in the way of me learning more. There was a time when people were so afraid to share information because of someone’s potential to outshine them. The internet and social media has drastically created a space for public information – which is encouraging for newbies in the industry.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am the Co-Founder and CEO of Creative Titans, a full-service entertainment company with a boutique label, management, publishing and marketing services. I founded Creative Titans in 2017, as a continuation of my desire to highlight artists, producers and musicians across the global diaspora, including the Caribbean, Africa, Latin America, the UK, and territories outside of North America.
I carefully crafted the business with a personal stake in bringing attention to areas of the world considered “inconsequential” to the music industry at large. A lifelong entrepreneur, I initially got industry recognition in New York City and Miami with successful, organic music events and parties, and even opened multiple popular restaurants after graduating from St. John’s University with a Bachelor’s in Computer Science and a focus in Business.
My marketing mastery, intrapersonal skills and candid, straight-forward demeanor led me to managing artists directly, through organic relationships. My personal roster started with Jamaican Dancehall artist Popeye Caution, and eventually Grammy-award winning creatives like Jamaican producer IzyBeats, and Jamaican producer and DJ Walshy Fire of Major Lazer.. The company expanded as bidding wars ensued amongst publishing companies to sign Creative Titans and its undeniable roster. We entered a joint venture deal with Concord Music Publishing.
Currently, the Creative Titans team of writers and producers are responsible for a large percentage of the music coming out of the Caribbean and Latin America, including hit records such as Koffee’s “Toast” from her 2020 Grammy-winning album, Reggaeton duet kings Wisin Y Yandel #1 hit single “Recordar”, Jorja Smith’s “Be Honest” featuring Burna Boy and several songs for Beyoncé including “Hold Up”, “Sorry” and “MOVE” as well as an energetic remix to Hootie & The Blowfish’s “Turn It Up”.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Due to the high demand in catalog acquisitions since 2020, my partner, Ed Poston, and I also launched Creative Titans Legacy, a subdivision of Creative Titans backed by a reputable investment fund, which was set to acquire, manage, and amplify Caribbean & LATAM music catalogs. Unfortunately, we learned the hard way that some aspects of the business aren’t for us. It was very hard to negotiate for catalogs and we decided to dissolve the business.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I pride myself on my expertise in bringing necessary attention to overlooked parts of the world, changing the lives of artists that’s within our orbit, and changing the future of what’s possible for the Caribbean and beyond. Creative Titans signed renowned Dancehall legend and veteran, Bounty Killer to a worldwide publishing deal. We want to show the youth across the Caribbean and LATAM that they can evolve into international superstars. My goal has always been to motivate the disadvantaged and let them know that we have their backs.
