We recently connected with Romeo Etienne and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Romeo, thanks for joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
In my journey as an actor and creative, I’ve always believed in the power of taking risks and betting on myself. Growing up in New York’s 914 area also known as “ The 9” I was surrounded by a vibrant tapestry of stories that often went untold. This background has instilled in me a desire to break away from the conventional narratives we often see in television and film.
One pivotal moment in my career came when I was presented with a role in the film “ A Son to A Father “ that was quite different from anything I had done before. It was a character that challenged societal norms and provided a fresh perspective on a theme that had been explored countless times but never quite from this angle. I remember feeling a mix of excitement and fear—the kind that comes when you know you’re stepping outside your comfort zone while playing the role of “ Kevin “ in that film. I chose to embrace that fear and bet on myself. I poured my heart into the role, believing that my unique voice could resonate with audiences.
The result was more than just a performance; it was a statement. Not only did it redefine my capabilities as an actor, but it also sparked conversations around the themes we portrayed. This experience solidified my belief in the quote by Dr. Janel Anderson: “Betting on yourself means that you are wholly committed to yourself.” It’s about having that unwavering belief in your ability to add value, not just to your work but to the larger narrative landscape.
With my new series, “Thirty Something,” heading into production in late spring 2025 and my next film, “City of Sin,” being released in 2026 I aim to tell stories that reflect the voices and experiences that are often overlooked. I didn’t wait for Hollywood to define my path; instead, I forged my own, driven by the conviction that my perspective matters.
Each time I take these risks, I learn and grow, and there’s no greater feeling than seeing the fruits of betting on myself. It’s a journey filled with challenges, but when you win, it’s incredibly rewarding—both personally and for the audiences who resonate with those stories.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
After receiving and completing training from 3 different theatre and performing arts schools My journey into the world of performance began with a breakthrough role as Dr. Andre Masako, the captivating love interest in the stage adaptation of Hope Hollinsworth Coaxum’s compelling book, “A Gift of Sunshine.” This pivotal performance solidified my position as a rising star and launched me into cinematic endeavors.
In film, I had the privilege of showcasing my talents in Jermaine Smith’s poignant production, “A Piece of Me,” where I brought depth and authenticity to the character of Gee, resonating deeply with audiences. Television viewers also engaged with my portrayal of the heartless gangster Norv Barnett in the gripping urban crime drama series “Vish Merrick,” created by Director Jermaine Smith.
Beyond acting, my entrepreneurial spirit led me to establish H.D.P. Entertainment. This venture allows me to create opportunities not just for myself but also for others in the industry.
What sets me apart is my commitment to authentic storytelling and my passion for fostering talent in others. I am most proud of the connections I’ve made and the impact I’ve had through my work. I want potential clients, followers, and supporters to know that I am dedicated to excellence, collaboration, and the art of performance, and I am always looking to push the boundaries of creativity in everything I do.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I am deeply passionate about inspiring those who come from backgrounds similar to mine, showing them that their stories matter. I want them to see someone who looks like them achieving their dreams and believing in the power of their narratives.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
. Growing up, the odds seemed stacked against me. Society had its own narrative, suggesting that those who came from a similar background were destined to become mere statistics—lost in a cycle of despair and hopelessness. The chilling reality was that many believed I wouldn’t make it past my 25th birthday.
Despite these daunting projections, I harbored a fierce spirit and an unyielding determination. I faced countless rejections, especially in the pursuit of my dream in the performing arts. No matter how much training and recommendations I had. Casting directors often saw me as just another face in the crowd, leading to a string of “no’s” that could easily have discouraged anyone. But rather than folding under the pressure, I chose to rise. Each rejection became fuel for my fire; every “no” transformed into motivation to push harder and strive for greatness.
With time, this resilience began to pay off. I found my Hunger, my Desire, and my Passion. That unique spark that set me apart. Then I started to be celebrated and recognized on various platforms like this one. This proves that one’s origins do not define their destiny.
I want my story became one of inspiration, reminding others that resilience can turn challenges into stepping stones toward success.
