We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rome Williams a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Rome, thanks for joining us today. Folks often look at a successful business and imagine it was an overnight success, but from what we’ve seen this is often far from the truth. We’d love to hear your scaling up story – walk us through how you grew over time – what were some of the big things you had to do to grow and what was that scaling up journey like?
When I first started my business, I didn’t know anything about running a business. I just jumped out there and had to learn different things along the way. I opened up my establishment in two thousand and seventeen. and didn’t see much growth with my business until two thousand and twenty. Being your own boss is wonderful, but it also takes time trying to build your brand and build management characteristics. There where times, where I thought about give up because I had so much going on in my life. I never gave in to what the enemy wanted, I continued to grow stronger with my work and now people from all of are learning about my brand.
Rome, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am thirty six year old African-American woman, who was blessed with six amazing children. I’ve graduated at the university level, and gained my Cosmetology and Business Administration Degree. I’ve always had a passion for hair. When I was younger, I did my own hair. My clients smile is what drives me to my hardest! When I turn them around to the mirror when, I’m done styling there hair the reaction they give is always a priceless thing to watch. When you’re getting your hair styled, it boosts your confidence and just makes you feel a lot better about yourself than you’ve already felt. When styling clients, I’m an open vessel to listen and give them advice when asked, I feel honored to help other fellow ladies out, with daily issues they go through. I started my product line because of my daughter, she was born with little to no hair, and as a mom I wanted to do something to bring her hair out. My product line has reached many people, and is selling in my county’s local beauty supply stores. This is my passion, and I thank God every day for letting me be able to help and inspire others.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience on social media, by asking for recommendations and referrals. Getting recommendations or referrals can help you’re business sales, BOOST Tremendously. You will get pole from all over, wanting to try your products or the service you produce.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
With me starting my journey so young, that helped me reach clients like never before. I was able to spread and grow my organization through the pure foundation of my goals and my work ethic. I’ve never given up on believing in myself as much as I wanted to, and I’ve been told “no”multiples of times. But with my perseverance and dedication, I’ve never given up on my dream. My clients are the main cause of what, I do. I’ve made it where I am today, because of them.
