We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Roman Flintroy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Roman below.
Alright, Roman thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The Bubble Bath Bar came into fruition through a conversation I was having with my partner about how we could not find an all natural bubble bath that has a luxurious lasting lather.
This conversation lead me to do some research on bath products. The information that I found explained how most bubble bath and shower gel products have harmful chemicals and ingredients that not only dry the skin, but also causes diseases and other problems.
This made me want to jump into action because as a therapist and healer I’m always looking for ways to increase wellness in my community. As I continued to search I found a way to deliver all natural and healing bath and shower products, so I began my journey.
Thru prayer and meditation I was guided by spiritual downloads and the guidance of my ancestors in my dreams to cultivate and curate products that nourish and heal the skin while teaching ways to combat mental health and physical symptoms through our healing with water sessions.
These sessions are set up like counseling sessions and focus on helping people identify their current symptoms and guide them towards a more enriching relationship with water. Some key points are how to make bath and shower time more purposeful and meaningful by using our products and adding mantras and rituals to increase healing power.
Our bubble bath products are made up of a few simple ingredients….Castile soap, vegetable glycerin, and essential oils. We also have CBD bubble bath and other CBD products like Shae butter and bath salts. Our collection also includes black soap, herbal body sprays, and body oils.
We are truly excited about the positive feedback and responses we have received in support of our products and journey towards increasing health and wellness in our community.
Roman, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As a mental health professional and spiritual person I have always felt it was important to start with self and let your light reach others as you continue to do your work.
I have been working in the field of mental health for 20 years helping community members combat depression, anxiety, PTSD, diagnosis acceptance, re-entry, and substance use. A part of the services I provide are sound therapy, meditation, and grounding and coping skills. So, taking it a step further to teach how water can be a conduit to heal seemed to be the next step.
For many years I would only buy all natural products like black soap and Shae butter or products from places like the Body Shop or Lush, but I found my skin would get inflamed or really dry. So, while they advertised all natural products the ingredients begged to differ in some cases and none of these companies actually talk about water and how important it is beyond our daily activities.
In my indifference I began to talk with family, friends, and community members about their bathing experiences and what they thought could change. A lot of people shared my position on products that didn’t soothe or nourish their skin. Many people actually felt the condition of their skin created mental health symptoms and ongoing frustrations. Furthermore, more people didn’t even understand what I meant by, “what is your current relationship with water?”
I came to the conclusion that in the current society we live in we are rushing through self care time and connecting with our natural resources less and less. We aim to help people become more aware of how water can be more that something we drink or bathe in. We aim to educate people about the benefits of being more intentional when engaging with water and our products.
The Bubble Bath Bar has been proven to soften, hydrate, nourish, and help reduce skin problems. Reports say it leaves you feeling soft, silky, and satisfied.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
This business journey was purely ground based. I didn’t have a lot of money to start this business, but I used the resources I had to get it off of the ground.
I wanted to open a brick and mortar location, but the pandemic put a halt to that plan and instead we went the route of vending at pop ups, fairs, events, and markets until we can move forward with a location.
Working as a vendor has helped increase capital that is being used to currently fund the business and replenish products.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Growing up my grandfather and his brothers owned a landmark business in Oakland California called Flint’s BBQ. It was there that I learned the value of hard work and dedication. I would not only watch my grandfather, but he would take me to work with him on the weekends early in the morning to get the restaurant set up and ready for the date business.
I learned a lot watching how he managed every step of the business from buying products, preparing them for sales, and maintaining records and balancing checks.
For a long time I thought I would follow in his footsteps and open a BBQ restaurant, but I went into the direction of wellness instead. Now, mind you I was t always a part of the solution. In my youth I was rambunctious and thought I would become a rapper or get into entertainment, but that didn’t pan out.
When my “street life” didn’t bring the opportunities I thought it would I decided to change my life and go back to college and this time I had a plan that brought me to where I am today. A therapist and business owner.
