We recently connected with Rollupdenn. P and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Rollupdenn., thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump back to the first dollar you earned as a creative? What can you share with us about how it happened?
The first dollar I ever earned as a creative was one of the best feelings ever. It was my first ever paid gig, my close friend Cyco Tha King put me onto this booking agency for local shows in the city (Columbus, Ohio) because he said I was too dope to keep doing open mics. The venue was at the legendary Skully’s Music Diner in the short north. I got my ticket link, my flyer created, and sent it out to everyone in my contacts from my phone and posted on all my social platforms over the span of 2 weeks. The day of the show, I made $200+ and that was one of the largest crowds of supporters I gathered off of putting myself out there and straight hustle.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Payzlie (pronounced “Paisley”) and I was born and raised on the northside of Columbus, Ohio. I”ve always loved music so when I began to create professionally in 2022, I was quickly embraced by our rapidly growing underground music scene with so much love and support. I provide artist development consultations, songwriting services, as well as digital products. What I believe sets me apart from others is my versatility as an artist, my heart, and my authenticity. My naturally competitive spirit allows me to tap into different creative flows, approaches, and pockets to produce new schemes, new vibes, and new bars on any and every terrain. I lighten every environment, I bring a contagious vibe and immeasurable amounts of positive energy. Everyone in this field is playing for themselves, and although I am too- I never do bad business or anything that would put me up, at the expense of others. I love having a valid face card and I’m a firm believer in “you lose it how you get it” in everything I do. I’m most proud of my growth and impact as an independent artist (under no management) in the various communities I represent and am a part of. My network is continuously growing and I’m so grateful to be in the rooms that I’ve had the opportunity to be in and the amazing entrepreneurs I’ve built meaningful relationships with. I would like for everyone to know that my brand is undergoing expansion and there’s a lot in store for you all this year and years to come!
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
There was an interview and a book I read that impacted my mindset during my journey. A Nipsey Hussle interview I watched about a year before I recorded my first single and it inspired me so much. He was speaking about being all in with everything he did. He stacked up as much as he could and then invested every dollar needed to begin his music career. His biggest point was ownership. He invested in himself and his people to make his dream come true. He always spoke on the importance of keeping God in mind in the moves he made. He mentioned real morals and principles that aligned with mine so I felt urged to embrace some of his ways of thinking, truly a mogul. The book I read is titled “Inner Fitness…” written by Nordine Zouareg (former Mr. Universe). He was a pro bodybuilder and he stressed the importance of mental health, personal development, overcoming anxiety (which I battled with), and self-worth. Creating music has been extremely fun, challenging, and healing but I feel it even more now that I have a better understanding of who I am as a person as well as an artist. Having the right mindset built on a strong foundation is half the battle, the rest will follow.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
A time I had to pivot in my life was in 2020 when the pandemic struck. I was a junior in college at Ohio University and I was home on spring break. It was only supposed to be a week but we all got emails stating break would be extended until further notice. The next email received was to come back to campus and move out as soon as possible. I had to come home to complete my Bachelor’s degree but being home is what lead me to becoming a professional creative. I obtained my bachelor’s degree in science the same weekend I dropped my first project “Kaleidoscope.P” in December, 2022.
