We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rohit Gehani a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Rohit thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
When I was a kid, the first movie I can remember watching was Jurassic Park, and ever since then I have been taking away by being transported into another world. I really felt a connection with characters especially Alan Grant. I would alway be drawn to the cinema for another adventure and wanted to see the different performances and how it affected me. I eventually sought out films from local video stores and caught up on old motion pictures. When I started realising this could be an actual path for my life I made vow to use my perseverance and faith to become an Actor. Even when I joined the Marines I still always found myself in the movie theatre or on my laptop watching the latest film release or just catching up on a great performance to draw inspiration from just like I did in watching Jurassic Park in my earliest of memories.

Rohit, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was born in Laurel, Maryland and at a young age I always loved to explore I was a child of nature and loved to go outside. But in my free time I really enjoyed watching movies and rarely tv on Nickelodeon. I was always a problem student but it was because I was always constantly day dreaming about being somewhere or even being someone else. Until I enjoyed the Marines did I find out how to conduct myself in a better manner. I became an absolute professional and the difference in the way I was as an adolescent was a complete night and day. Being a Marine is one of most proudest accomplishments because It was something I knew I could Do, and I did my service and am proud of every year I did. I provide a great service of creativty and professionalism. I got into my craft by doing background acting and eventually enrolling in acting courses in my spare time. I excel in problem solving and making a commitment to a project emotionally and physically.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to become the greatest actor of my generation, And I feel with the proper guidance and drive I will be able to accomplish this. And if I don’t its a very high mark to strive for and I know if I set this unreasonable mission my end result at the end of my career will be something I will be more than happy with. I also find the greatest actors of all time to be some of my greatest role models. I want to be the same for the younger generation and also my generation as well.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I wish I knew that it ok to fail and to be in a state of constant losses. I have been in place where my finances were more than fine and now I’m in trying to build up where I have to build myself back up, and I wish I knew about saving money and investing in places. Either to my education and training or even to help myself start a business. Now I know that there is a time when things are down, and its best to plan for the forceable future and to always keep a good outlook on life and stay positive and most importantly invest in yourself.
