We recently connected with Rohini Agarwal and have shared our conversation below.

Rohini, appreciate you joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?

Growing up it never occurred to me that parenting is such a difficult job. I always assumed that my parents magically always know what needs to be done. Its only when i became a mom i realized that Its a job where parents take countless decisions on a daily basis which eventually shape the habits, personality and the skills. Everyday i question myself if i am drawing the right balance between thoughtful parenting and giving appropriate freedom to my kid to develop his individual personality, his own likes/dislikes. Needless to say i am always going to draw inspiration from my parents because they helped shape me into a successful person. They emphasized the value of education, the value of practicing kindness and the value of finding happiness in the little things we did. They were firm when they needed to be and also forgiving so i could be honest with them if did something wrong.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I am dentist practicing general & cosmetic dentistry in Dallas, TX. I started my own private practice Smilecloud Family Dental in March 2024 and have focused on providing modern dentistry in my community. We use some of the latest technology in the industry like itero lumina digital scanner, carestream conebeam machine for 3d scans, handheld xrays for low xray exposure & Straumann implants.

Integrating modern technology into the workflow allows me to deliver precision work with high aesthetics which also make our patients very happy with the results. A successful dental career must be a mix of interpersonal skills and practice. A dental expert must create a comfortable environment for patients to be the best dentist in Dallas. Dentistry is an ever-evolving field where more and more technology is introduced each day. Openness to technology and evolving expertise will help create the best dental care for patients.

Let’s move on to buying businesses – can you talk to us about your experience with business acquisitions?

I bought an existing practice from a retiring dentist in Dallas in the past, which came with all the business assets as well as the patient base. After working as an employee for a few years, I was confident that I could run my practice and started my journey of finding the right practice that was a good fit for me. There are brokers who list dental/medical treatment, and I was able to qualify for a practice loan with my bank. They helped me land on a listing I liked. The acquisition process starts with a letter of intent to the practice owner stating your willingness to buy and the terms of the purchase, including a closing date. Once accepted, the practice owner shares confidential information, which includes tax returns, patient counts, revenue trends, and profit margins. After all the due diligence is completed, the bank completes the loan documents, and the title of the practice is transferred to the new owner. The real challenges begin after the closing, as you have to make introductions to patients, staff, and vendors and also make changes so you are comfortable in day-to-day activities.
